Castilo pupuntiryahin na ang women's Open crown

MANILA, Philippines - Hangad ni Gelita Castilo na makuha ang mailap na korona sa women’s Open singles division ng MVP Sports Foundation-Bingo Bonanza Philippine Badminton Ranking System (PBaRS) tournament sa pagtatakda ng third leg nito sa Hulyo 30 hanggang Agosto 3 sa Wheels and More badminton courts sa Davao City.

Nabigong masikwat ang korona sa dalawang ba­hagi ng four-stage nationwide circuit, determinado si Castilo na maangkin ang titulo sa nasabing five-day event na inorganisa nina Vice President at Philip­pine Badminton Association president Jejomar Binay, Rep. Albee Benitez at businessman-sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan.

Sa kabila ng pagka­talo kina Bianca Carlos at Malvinne Alcala, lumagay naman sa No. 1 si Castilo sa kanyang 10,200 points mula sa bagong PBaRS ranking points system.

Hindi naman naglaro si Alcala, ang top player ng bansa, sa first leg noong Marso ngunit may 6,000 points sa ilalim ni Grace Lim (6,504).

Muli na naman siyang liliban sa torneo bunga ng kanyang training sa Malaysia.

“Actually, I’m not expec­ting to win in the Open. But let’s wait and see what will happen,” sabi ni Castilo, hangad madomina ang Open doubles kasama si Dia Nicole Magno. “I really want to defend my titles in the Open and 19-under doubles.”

Si Castillo ay isang two-time winner ng Yonex Open.

Sasabak rin sa Open doubles ang tambalan nina Ana Barredo-Jamila Cruz, Samanta Ramos-Kristina Tan, Ginalee Daymiel-Joce­lyn Monteverde at Amor Montilla-Kristelle Salatan.
