Lovi Poe opens up on how motherhood changed her outlook on life
MANILA, Philippines — Actress Lovi Poe said becoming a mother has significantly changed the way she looks at life, teaching her to let go of perfection and become more flexible in dealing with everyday challenges.
Lovi opened up on her experience as a first-time mom in an interview with journalist Karen Davila on the latter's YouTube channel.
“A lot has changed. I think I don’t chase perfection anymore. I let things go,” Lovi said.
The actress admitted that motherhood has changed her once-structured routine. Before becoming a mom, she said she was accustomed to having almost every aspect of her day carefully planned.
“I am more flexible now. Kasi I am such a routine person, everything is on the dot from the sip of my coffee, time of working out, time of leaving to set. That’s how I operate,” she said.
“And now ’yung lahat ng routine ko na ’yun, gone. Parang everything is like completely messy but I love it. I don’t plan things anymore. I just take things as it comes, as it goes,” she added.
Lovi took a temporary break from showbiz after giving birth to her first child with her British producer husband, Monty Blencowe, in the United States.
The actress described herself as a hands-on mother, saying she wanted to experience the different stages of caring for a newborn despite the exhaustion that came with it.
“I woke up every three hours. Basically I’m up because, the schedule of having a newborn you wake up, and feed, burp, and then change diaper and then back again. It’s that rotation and everything. Major hands-on,” she recalled.
Lovi said being hands-on was a conscious decision because she wanted to savor every moment of her child’s early years.
“It was my choice talaga. I wanted to experience every single one of it ’cause I see a lot of things. You want to go through it no matter how tired you are it’s because they are gonna grow up so fast,” she said.
“I really savored the tough moments, and the best moments, and working at the same time. It still is the most exhausting but the most rewarding thing ever,” she added.
Although her mother and a friend helped her during the early days of motherhood, Lovi said she personally handled much of the day-to-day care of her baby.
“I was doing everything on my own. My mom was there to help me and I had a friend who came over as well, but I am super hands-on,” she said.
Lovi said she remains hands-on even while balancing her career. When she is working on set, she has people who assist her with childcare, but she makes it a point to take over once she gets home.
“Even until now, but of course when I’m on set I have people helping me. But when I get home, pag-uwi ko talaga I make sure ako nagpapatulog ’pag hindi pa tulog. Ako ’yung nagpi-feed,” she said.
For Lovi, motherhood has brought a different kind of fulfillment, prompting her to embrace the unpredictability of life and appreciate the moments that come with raising her child.
