A diplomatic evening of welcomes and farewells

Members of the diplomatic community recently gathered for an evening that celebrated both new beginnings and fond farewells at the home of former Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Leehiong Wee.
Hosted by Rosalind Wee, Monaco Consul General Fortune Ledesma, Irene Wicklein and Mav Rufino, the dinner welcomed Slovakia Amb. Miloš Koterec, Australian Amb. Marc Innes-Brown and Chargé d’Affaires Kasia Wilkowieka of Poland as they begin their assignments in the Philippines.
The gathering also honored several distinguished diplomats whose tours of duty in the country are coming to a close, namely Türkiye Amb. Evren Akyol, Canadian Amb. David Hartman, Norwegian Amb. Christian Halaas Lyster, French Amb. Marie Fontanel, and The Netherlands Amb. Marielle Geraedts.
The evening reflected the close ties and camaraderie shared within Manila’s diplomatic circle, as guests exchanged stories, well wishes and memories from their respective postings.
Following dinner, the atmosphere turned lighthearted as ambassadors and their spouses gathered around the karaoke microphone for an evening of music and laughter. Guests took turns performing favorite songs to the delight of the crowd, setting aside diplomatic formalities in favor of friendship and celebration. As some diplomats prepare to depart and others begin a new chapter in Manila, the evening served as a reminder of the enduring friendships and meaningful connections formed during their time in the Philippines.
