MANILA, Philippines — For the very first time, Marion Cotillard, the most respected French actress in Hollywood, is lending her image to a fragrance.

Cotillard has been faithful to the brand since the beginning of her career, walking the red carpet in Chanel for the Jean-Pierre Jeunet film A Very Long Engagement in 2004 and Olivier Dahan’s La Vie en rose in 2008.

Marion Cotillard moved the entire world with her performance as chanteuse Édith Piaf, winning the Oscar, the César, the Golden Globe, and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress. This international acclaim gave her the opportunity to work with the most renowned directors — such as Jacques Audiard, James Gray, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Steven Soderbergh and Leos Carax — while supporting young artistic talents and taking risks to champion debut feature films. Cotillard takes her unique perspective from film to film, creating an exceptional destiny as a free woman.

Fashion houses didn’t always use movie stars in their campaigns. But in 1974, Chanel challenged that by making Catherine Deneuve the face of the fragrance.

It has also been famously fronted by Nicole Kidman. She starred in “No. 5 the Film” in 2004, directed by Baz Luhrmannm, giving the 180-second short film the same romance and sparkle as in Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge starring Rodrigo Santoro with costumes designed by Karl Lagerfeld.

It’s no secret that actresses love the fragrance. There’s that famous Marilyn Monroe interview with Life magazine in 1952 where she famously quipped that the fragrance was her nightgown of choice. The fragrance has also had a man as its face, none other than Brad Pitt.

The new advertising campaign for the N°5 fragrance featuring Cotillard, defined by the brand as “the perfect incarnation of French natural beauty,” will be unveiled later on this year.
