Heart Evangelista unveils her most personal collaboration
MANILA, Philippines — Many collabs come and go, but 2019 marks the third year that actress, beauty icon, author and artist Heart Evangelista is collaborating with homegrown skin-caring makeup brand, Happy Skin. She first collaborated with the brand in 2016 with a collection that featured mini lippies and lip liners in wearable reds, pinks and nudes. In 2018, her best-selling collection was brought to life again with full-sized lippie versions of her two lip liners, Heartthrob (true red) and Skinny Dipping (nude pink).
“I think it’s quite natural for me to collaborate again with Happy Skin because I did start with them. The brand is my lucky charm because Happy Skin was my first collab — the first brand to believe in me — and this started all my other collaborations that came after,” Heart shares.
For this third collection, she invites women to unleash the artist in all of us. Creativity comes in many forms and for this #HappySkinXLoveMarie collection, the artist shares her newest work of art — six wearable lip colors in three beautiful textures: matte, mousse, and gloss. With this art-inspired collection, you can let your lips be the canvas and let it speak without saying a word: wear each lippie on its own or layer them to create different looks! “Let your creativity run free!” says Heart.
Definitely not a repeat of any existing lipstick color, #HappySkinXLoveMarie gives women six customized lip colors in peach, pink, mauve and red hues. “I wanted the colors to be light and fresh, but of course, you can also shift to night time. We all have our power moments, but we also want a chill day, so I wanted something light, too!” she explains about the selection of lip colors.
When it comes to lipstick, Heart embraces a personal rule: “For sure you want something that will make you feel beautiful, but at the same time makes you feel good — that feels good,” explains Heart. Her favorite? The cooling lip gloss. “I really love it, especially because it automatically makes you feel fresh!” she says. “Even if we’re all so busy, sometimes you just want to look effortlessly beautiful and not look so made-up and so prepared, but yet there’s still so much self-care,” she stresses.
To showcase the art in Heart, the #HappySkinXLoveMarie collection features a special mosaic painting entitled “Cathedral” on the packaging and even printed in gold on the lippie tubes. Just as Happy Skin was her first collaboration, “This painting was actually part of my very first art exhibit in 2014,” she reveals. “This is a very special painting because I wanted to immortalize myself in the painting, so I even have my handprint hidden there.”
#HappySkinXLoveMarie is her most personal collaboration to date as she shares another personal “first” in the collection: “I really wanted this to be different from all of my collaborations by really being super detailed, even with how every lippie name was special,” she explains. “For example, one lipstick is named ‘Missy,’ which was my first ever role on television,” she reveals, in describing the new mauve cooling lip gloss.
“I wanted this collection to be very personal,” she continues. “The lippie name ‘Love Me’ was something I would always write down when I was a little girl. It was always like a statement because when I was young, I was very insecure — I wasn’t the usual beauty that people would want. They always wanted somebody that looked like this or that, but I was different so I would always remind myself to love me. I remember even having a necklace pendant that had a ‘Love Me’ so it was always like a reminder to myself,” she shares. You can wear her mantra in a ultra-wearable nude peach moisturizing matte lippie.
“Kiss Me,” an old rose moisturizing matte lippie, “is actually my favorite song from Sixpence None The Richer. I also love the kiss mark sign, so I wanted to throw that in so it’s very nostalgic and personal,” says Heart.
She continues, “‘Heart’ would be me as a little girl—that’s what my dad would always call me. My mom calls me Love Marie so I guess that’s the more formal side and the more kikay side would be Heart.” In this collab, Heart is a brick-red vivid cotton lip mousse.
“You know,” she says, “we always have that one special moment that could be anything that changes our lives forever. So I wanted one lippie to be called ‘A Moment.’” She is referring to a my-lips-but-better-looking lip gloss in pink.
And finally, the artist in her explains the nude pink vivid cotton lip mousse named ‘My Story.’ “It could be my story or your story. Sometimes, you put something on top of the table and you take a photo of it, and you don’t even have to explain it with a caption. That one thing already paints a picture and is just really your story, that’s your life.”
And just as her art-inspired #HappySkinXLoveMarie collection makes your lips your canvas and lets you speak without saying a word, you can now ask: what story do I want to tell?
