Gangs of New York
MANILA, Philippines - Fashion’s renewed interest (and upsurging business) in the menswear arena takes center stage in the most recent inauguration of New York Fashion Week: Men’s S/S 2016 collection. Described as a reaction against the recent uptick of market growth in the last five years, storied brands and designer labels are reportedly expanding their masculine offerings for a broader menswear category.
Not far off from London Collections: Men, industry capitals Paris and Milan — with their own dedicated men’s fashion weeks — the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) launched the first edition of the biannual New York Fashion Week: Men’s last July 13 as an insert to the global fashion calendar.
Billed as a standalone counterpart to the women’s wear F/W and S/S showings in February and September, the three-day New York fashion event kicked off with a healthy mix of first season labels (Boyswear) to established heavy-hitters such as Calvin Klein Collection, Thom Browne, Rag & Bone, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, a return by John Varvatos and Public School NY.
New York Fashion Week: Men’s took place at Skylight Clarkson Square in West Soho. Here for the YStyle skinny; on the rise of new talent and six emerging menswear labels, NY-based freelance photographer Regine David gives us an exclusive from the front rows.
