Party Monster
MANILA, Philippines - Your disco needs you — what was once known only as Palais d’Iena was decked out with industrial scaffolding and neon lights to mimic a ‘90s underground atmosphere for the Paris Miu Miu Club held last July 4.
No stranger to the heady nightlife calendar, the woman who wears YStyle’s look of the week wouldn’t want to miss a choice appearance at every hot ticket event.
The one-night-only Miu Miu Club featured a fragrance launch, the label’s resort 2016 runway presentation, and a party with a slew of top tech-house DJs to amuse the guests and legendary supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. Close by, the likes of Marc Jacobs, Maggie Gyllenhaal and industry icons like Grace Coddington, legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath and hair stylist Guido Palau were present to show support and, well, to party.
The inspiration for the collection was the party itself. The flamboyant print pinafores, thigh-baring shift dresses, metal grommets and a mix of textures gave it the punk spirit Miu Miu’s long strayed away from. Raw and chaotic like the party, we like this younger, daring revamp.
Don’t be fooled by her flashy dance moves; she’s hard to miss. This week’s YStyle woman will keep you on your toes.
BOOK:Studio 54: The Legend
Travel back in time and relive the decadent heyday of the disco era. This book is a photographic tribute to an iconic nightclub that Vanity Fair named the greatest club of all time. Photographs were taken by Felice Quinto, the “king of the paparazzi” who captured the energy and chaos that happened every night. From the biggest celebrities, designers and artists, Studio 54 was known to be the place to be seen and be seen in the Disco ‘70s.
BAG: Fendi fall 2015
If adding a foxtail to your wardrobe can seem a bit much then this textured bag from Fendi can help compensate for the number of times we’ve all tried to make that foxtail trend work. The size is perfect for the girl who feels the need to carry everything at all times. To the girl who never leaves her house without her hand sanitizer and everything else in between — you’re welcome.
BEAUTY: Victoria Beckham fall 2015
She lives for the limelight of the dance floor and is known to be a smoky-eye junkie; our YStyle woman’s modern take on the smoky eye focuses on her lashline, extending to the under-eye area and skips out on mascara. With this look she doesn’t have to worry about smearing and smudging — who’s looking in a dark techno club anyway? Not to be mistaken for a disco ball, her luminous and glowing skin highlights her eyes therefore balancing out her sought-after look.
COCKTAIL: The Gigi’s
Created especially for singer and supermodel Grace Jones, the cocktail was made for the opening of London-based restaurant Gigi’s. Priced at a whopping £9,000, the expensive cocktail is filled with a 1990 vintage Cristal and an ultra-rare 1888 Samalens Vieille Relique Vintage Bas Armagnac that pre-dates the Boer War. To top it off, lashings of gold leaf finish off the expensive drink. This cocktail is literally liquid gold and one that our YStyle girl dreams of one day sipping.
CLUB: Berghain
If it’s a night of Berlin’s techno scene that you’re after then make your way to Berghain’s doors — that’s if their doorman, Sven Marquardt, lets you in with his tough door policy. GQ recently had a sit-down interview with the legendary bouncer to talk about his photography, personal style and what it takes to get in what some consider the greatest techno club in the world. Besides, what doorman gets to collaborate with Hugo Boss? Only this guy.
The renowned club knows no bottle service, no guest list and no reservations. Expect to party from Saturday to Monday afternoon (we’re not kidding) to nonstop techno music and long lines. Don’t get upset if they won’t let you in. It’s nothing personal; Berghain isn’t for everyone.
DRINK: J.W. Anderson for Diet Coke
A pop culture icon, Diet Coke remains the most popular low-calorie soft drink since 1986 and our girl’s go-to soda. So ultimately we ask you this question: is there really a better way to drink this bottle? The answer is yes.
The iconic brand Coca-Cola taps Northern Irish designer J.W. Anderson to give a makeover to the classic Diet Coke bottle. Anderson lends his aesthetic as well as draws inspiration from his autumn/winter 2015 collection and throws in two shirts and a notebook to the mix. The collaboration accompanies the launch of Diet Coke’s Regret Nothing campaign, which encourages people to embrace their impulsive side. The limited-edition box set will be available from Harvey Nichols stores on Aug. 17, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
SKINCARE: Luna Sleeping Night Oil
Although a rager would seem like the best idea on the weekend after a week of deadlines, partying two nights in a row won’t be so forgiving on your skin. You have to take into account the lady that casually blew nicotine all over your face, the alcohol you’ve consumed (who’s counting?) and the inevitable: aging.
This next-generation retinoid oil will help reduce the size of your pores, improve the overall appearance of damaged skin and help reduce the appearance of lines. Don’t worry, this product is made with organic cold-pressed oils and it doesn’t contain any parabens, sulfates and phthalates. Skincare is an investment that we take seriously and so should you.
HAIR: Prada fall 2015 with the Celine circle barrette from s/s 2015
If you find yourself dancing at a club full throttle, sometimes there are a few things we tend to forget. One, head-banging can result in frizzy, unkempt hair; and two, you might annoy the hell out of your dance partner. Here’s a tip, tie your hair into a sleek side ponytail and add a barrette to keep the tail in place. You don’t want all that hair to cause any more casualties.
SHOES: Altuzarra Resort 2016
Nothing makes a statement shoe like feathers — lots of them. For a look that is packed with texture and print, your shoes shouldn’t be the ones that should suffer the minimalist route.
MUSE: Amanda Lear
A singer, former model and muse of Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali among other things, Amanda Lear was an exotic name in the nightclub circuit of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Although she was never as well known as Bianca Jagger, Lear was a regular in gossip columns due to her relationships with rock stars: Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, not to mention her acquaintance with the Beatles, Twiggy and Pattie Boyd — and quite possibly being a transsexual.
Unlike a number of fashion muses from the ‘60s and ‘70s, Lear didn’t end up a junkie and actually lives to tell the tale of her disco queen days. From walking for rising star Paco Rabanne, to living a bohemian and flamboyant life in Swinging London to becoming one of Paris’ greatest strippers, her origins still remain a mystery; but that’s what makes her interesting. In her own words, “There is nothing the pop world loves more than a way-out freak.”
