Hair whiplash

Anna Canlas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - I love curls, but I hate a crunchy curl. Dry from too much heat and the wrong kind of hairspray, it reminds me of a brick of instant noodles. So I was delighted to see that at new womenswear designer Misha Nonoo’s s/s 2015 show, she complemented her pretty digital-print florals and beaded shell blouses with a shapely "S" wave, as if the models dunked their heads in a pool and then let it air dry. In reality, TRESemmé global stylist Matthew Curtis blow-dried the hair before curling. This removes any excess moisture that would otherwise cook it in that weird ramen-noodle shape, once you start wrapping it around a hot tool. He finished off with a humidity-resistant hairspray that goes on dry, instead of sticky. Adios, crunch.

You’ll need: a blow dryer, flat brush and tongs

Step 1: Part the hair on the side and apply TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Mousse (P568) at the root, working it into the hair.

Step 2: Firmly brush down on the roots and dry the root with a blow dryer to ensure the hair lays flat. Spray TRESemmé Salon Finish Extra Hold Hair Spray (P689).

Step 3: Take large sections of the hair and tong it vertically, starting at the front, wrapping the hair only once.

Step 4: Run your hands through the hair, keeping the top section smooth.

Step 5: Tuck the hair on one side behind the ear and spray all over with more hairspray.

Shower hair makes a splash at New York Fashion Week.
