Kool thing
MANILA, Philippines - We at YStyle came of age in the Noughties, amid the glare of computer screens and smartphone backlights, in a world of see and be scene, where everyone is their own brand and all we do is push, push, push.
In this week’s issue, we throw back to a time when style wasn’t something so studied, when cool didn’t care that it was cool: The Nineties. Our guest editor, stylist and fashion show director Melvin Mojica, will take you back (or give you a crash course, if you were never there to begin with) on an acid trip through the ‘90s, with a little help from his friends.
Diego Mapa (who you probably know better as half of Tarsius, Pedicab's frontman, or one of The Diegos) talks about his time — and picking up the fashion and music culture that was too cool for MTV (remember MTV?) — as Grocery's shopboy. Yodel Pe tells us all about what was cool in the cultural realms of film, music, fashion, and raves two decades ago. Stylists Mano Lotho and Karen Bolilia translate ‘90s style into a new cool for guys and girls.
If you were expecting elephant jeans or Trapper-Keepers, you've got another thing coming.
