Who threw the best NYFW after-party? We’ll give you one Guess
The NYFW after-party thrown by Guess last month was a hot ticket. I know this because I nearly got into a fight with a black woman who was clearly cutting the line with her friend, while we were all freezing our asses off, standing in line outside of Center 548. Instead of snapping my fingers and going, “Oh, hell no,†I decided to keep chatting with this dude who wrote for The Daily Beast, trying to see if I could ask about sending him my résumé without being weird about it. It didn’t happen.
It was the first time for Guess to throw a NYFW after-party, which is probably why it was such a huge deal to be invited. Apart from including a number of celebrities in their guest list, the brand was also launching its fall 2014 Road to Nashville collection.
After an hour, we were finally inside where I spotted Lucky editor in chief Eva Chen, who looked amazing in this multi-colored mink coat. I nearly lost my sh*t. This woman was my straight-up #lifepeg. Of course, I went up to her for a photo op. Of course, she was super nice about it and said that she wanted to come to Manila. As I was about to launch into this whole spiel about why she should, of course, she said something about needing to pee and was pulled away by Sharleen Ernster-Lazear, the chief design office of Guess. Of course, my photo with her was too dark, but I don’t care. I love you, Eva.
Next up, as I was taking a party shot of StyleBreak blogger Laureen Uy, I looked to my right and Anna Kendrick was practically standing right beside me, but I was too busy figuring out Laureen’s camera to ask for a photo. Anna disappeared after that, though. I heard she went to practically every show during NYFW.
A handful of other celebrities also dropped by — The Hangover actress Jamie Chung was there (she was Ed Helms’ Thai wife), along with Orange Is The New Black actresses Adrienne Bailon and Uzo Adubo a.k.a. “Crazy Eyes†(no dice on Taylor Schilling, though). I mistook this tall, gorgeous thing (seriously, she was way taller than all the models there) sporting a denim jacket and white leather backpack to be Priyanka Chopra, Guess’s first Asian endorser, but she turned out to be recording artist Lily Lane. Whoops.
At around midnight, the On the Road to Nashville fashion show started. If you’re familiar at all with Guess campaigns, you’ll know that Guess models are basically the denim equivalent of Victoria’s Secret Angels. Busty with pouty lips and long, flowing hair, the first model who walked out sported a denim bustier, paired with tight, high-waist jeans and thigh-high boots, while her partner wore a snakeskin coat with a black, ripped shirt and jeans. Snakeskin was a major theme in the collection, as seen on long coats, knee-high boots, jeans and top-handle handbags.
Of course, the denim was the star of the show: flared and skinny styles sent out a strong message, along with shorts, shortalls, overalls and jumpsuits. For men, cowboy-style jeans were on display, paired with classic denim vests and jackets, and boyfriend blazers. The stage looked like some sort of VIP room for country music stars, which makes sense, since the collection was inspired by Nashville, otherwise known as Music City. Not since Taylor Swift’s arrival did country look this good.
After the show wrapped up, the Cold War Kids started to play. By that time, we were ready to head out when I spotted a dude with incredibly familiar bone structure: It was Jared Leto. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to get a photo with an Oscar winner, his publicist (or was it his personal assistant/girlfriend Emma Ludbrook, the woman he said “I love you†to during his Oscar speech?) was pretty clear about having no photos of him taken. She was pretty serious about it too — I tried looking everywhere for photos of him at that party, but they don’t exist. It’s like he wasn’t there.
But he was! Along with Kate Bosworth a.k.a. “Late Bosworth,†who arrived after we had left, in time for DJ Atlanta De Cadenet Taylor's set. Joe Jonas was there, too, but by that time, I was too busy enjoying Momofuku pork buns with Laureen and Guess Manila rep, Obee Ham. I think Harry Styles is way cuter, anyway.
