Uniqlo pledges clothing and P1M to typhoon relief

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - During the opening of Uniqlo’s newest and biggest store at SM Megamall recently, Katsumi Kubota, chief operating officer of Fast Retailing Philippines, Inc., announced that Uniqlo is donating P1M cash and P1M worth of clothing — approximately 5,000 items in T-shirts and innerwear — to relief efforts for areas devastated by typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda, in the Philippines.

The assistance is for the more than 2.1 million families in need of food, water, shelter and other essentials across 41 provinces, including the Visayas region.

“Uniqlo extends its deepest condolences to those impacted by the typhoon. We are committed to working with the people of the Philippines to provide rapid relief and support for long term recovery efforts,” Kubota said.

To date, in the Philippines, Fast Retailing has provided aid for disaster relief, spearheaded youth education initiatives, and established charitable funds from a portion of its sales.
