Nailing your manicure for fall/winter
MANILA, Philippines - Following the insanity of over-the-top nail art and blinding neon manicures from spring/summer comes the somber, yet still festive nails from the fall/winter runways in New York and Paris. Though decidedly more polished (pun intended) and mature, these rich, dark tones are livened up by the addition of glittery textures — just in time for the upcoming holiday months. Because with the onset of Christmas traffic and crowded malls, who has the time nor patience for anything longer than a basic express manicure? Also, an important side note: Don’t you dare head out in those trendy Birkenstock-esque sandals without getting a pedicure first, unless you’re pairing them with socks, in which case: how very au courant of you.
Black is the night
As seen in: Elie Saab, Louis Vuitton and Kenzo
A basic black manicure will never go out of style during the fall/winter months, but to keep it less grunge and more holiday, try patterning your black manicure with heavy metal flecks.
Code red
As seen in: Valentino, Reema Acra and Naeem Khan
Save the cherry red tints for next summer and embrace the more sophisticated oxblood and wine tones for the holiday season. Glitter (Ã la Mariah Carey) optional.
Gray skies
As seen in: Nicholas K and Degen
The coming of the “ber†months also brings a gray-cast sky. You can either fight the gloomy weather with gray metallic nails or be one with a basic gray polish. Either way, you’ll still look sleek and updated.
In the navy
As seen in: Tracy Reese and Tsumori Chisato
Navy blue is another popular nail color for fall/winter. Like other hues this season, you can also opt for the shimmery ends of the color spectrum to keep it festive.
Going nude
As seen in: Bottega
Venetta, Lanvin and Viktor & Rolf
The Paris fall/winter runways were all about clean, neutral nails. For this look, you can opt for a milky nude hue or add a bit of sparkle before heading out to a party.
