Eyes on you

MANILA, Philippines - MCM, the Munich-based luxury leather goods company that first gained fame after being seen on famous K-Pop stars is about to gain an even wider fan base with their latest collaboration. Soon to be available in MCM boutiques worldwide is a capsule collection by Pop Artists Craig Redman and Karl Maier, who are based in NYC and London, respectively. From backpacks to briefcases, shoppers to wallets, and even keychains, bright-eyed peepers stare out from lip-shaped frames, along with palm trees galore in a colorful collection which “evokes a sunny optimism, recalling sun kissed vacations and the youthful excitement of an endless summer.” Why hasn’t anybody opened up an MCM boutique outside of Duty Free here yet?

Stellar return

It was a bit of a mystery to some who wondered about what happened to former British Vogue fashion editor Luella Bartley after her wildly successful eponymous label Luella abruptly shuttered in 2009. As it turns out, she’s been secretly plotting her return to fashion all along with the help of her good friend and fellow designer, Katie Hillier. In a twist of fate that has Luella fans rejoicing, Hillier was recently named creative director of Marc by Marc Jacobs and in one of her first acts in her new position, she appointed Bartley as the womenswear design director. Hurrah for preppy-geek girls everywhere! In an interview with WWD, president and vice chairman of Marc Jacobs International Robert Duffy said Jacobs’ diffusion line was starting to get “a little stale” and that Jacobs would continue to be involved “as he wants to be, it depends on the season.” While waiting to see what Hillier and Bartley come up with, in the meantime, check out the super-cute Marc by Marc Jacobs x Liberty of London bags.

#Winning

At the recently concluded 2013 CFDA Awards, designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez took home the Womenswear Designer of the Year award for their work on their label, Proenza Schouler. This is the third time for the design pair to win the award, after winning it back in 2007 and in 2011. Choked up, Hernandez told Refinery29, “I’m living a dream.” Other winners for the night include Thom Browne for Menswear Designer of the Year, Phillip Lim for 3.1 Phillip Lim for Accessory Designer of the Year, Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty for Suno for the Swarovski Awards for Womenswear, Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for the Swarovski Awards for Menswear, Pamela Love for the Swarovski Award for Accessories, Riccardo Tisci for the International Award, Tim Blanks for the Media Award, Oscar de la Renta for the Founders Award, Vera Wang for the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and costume designer Colleen Atwood for the Board of Directors’ Tribute Award.

At long last

In other long-awaited fashion comebacks, French muse, style icon, author and designer Inès de la Fressange is coming back to the eponymous line of select clothing and accessories that she founded in 1991. The label was sold to Calao Finance and Dubai-based investment firm The Luxury Fund, which also holds shares in Elie Saab, and Fabrice Boe has stepped up as the label’s president, according to WWD. De la Fressange first gained fame by becoming the first model to sign an exclusive contract with Chanel. In 1989, she and Karl Lagerfeld had a public falling out, which but they buried the hatchet after 20 years when she returned to the Chanel catwalk last year at 55 years old. In recent years she has also served as the brand ambassador for Roger Vivier and L’Oréal.
