What designers would like you to wear for the holidays

JACKIE O' FLASH - Bea J. Ledesma - The Philippine Star

November is in full party mode. I can count on two hands (take that, Basic Math Professor!) the number of formal events I’ve had to schlep to in the previous weeks. Whenever I see an invitation demanding I dress up, I can’t help but groan. If only I had an elf in my closet to produce enough gowns and cocktail dresses to satisfy a Saudi princess, I’d have enough outfits to last me half a month. Okay, I exaggerate. Maybe three weeks.

Josie Natori recently told me, “People in Manila love their events.” And it’s true. The woman is not only a designer and businesswoman, she is clearly a sage.

To set the tone for the season, YStyle tasked four young designers (clearly well-versed in the party scene) to present their look for the season. The results range from demure ball skirts to fantastic fringe.

What’s your key look for holiday?

The sheer trend is still in full swing this holiday season, but now it’s beaded, embroidered or embellished. My take involves silk organdy embellished with leaf-shaped cutouts in leather.

What’s the one thing we should invest in for the season?

You can invest in one embellished piece, be it a jacket, top or skirt that you can layer, layer and layer some more. The point is to only give a glimpse of skin instead of laying it all bare to make this glitzy trend appropriate for day to night.

What’s your key look for holiday?

A cheeky combination of ethereal and goth. I worked with tulle and lace with black metal accents using zippers.

What’s the one thing we should invest in for the season?

A glittery cocktail dress!

What’s your key look for holiday?

This ensemble is from my recent collection. It’s an ultra-light Italian taffeta ball skirt with pockets paired with a nice crisp polo shirt. It’s glamorous and easy at the same time. A fresh and younger alternative to your usual ball gown.

What’s the one thing we should invest in for the season?

Ball skirts are the best thing to invest in this season, considering all the parties and events to attend. Pair it with a solid tee or go for a luxurious lace top. It’s such a versatile piece for the season.

What’s your key look for holiday?

Twenties glam. It’s a look that’s very feminine and fun, which I’m known for. I tried this look on silk with tassels and gold chains.

What’s the one thing we should invest in for the season?

A fancy watch, because most don’t get to wear dressier timepieces the rest of the year.
