Cai Subijano - The Philippine Star

Classic with a twist

MANILA, Philippines - The Chuck Taylor All Stars Boots collection illustrates the extremes of the fashion and footwear spectrum from the classic and iconic to grungy rebellion. The collection is a rugged yet sophisticated version of the classic Chuck Taylors, highlighted by pops of color or detail on a well-loved silhouette, a signature style Converse has been known for. Also included in Converse’s latest collection are revitalized versions of the Jack Purcell and Pro Leather collections. The Jack Purcell features leather, cotton and canvas portraying an image of classic, understated style. Its rugged style is finished off with a vulcanized outsole. The Pro-Leather collection, on the other hand, reveals an updated version with bold colors in both suede and leather, with an instantly recognizable Star chevron logo.

On the fast lane

Japanese automobile company Suzuki has teamed up with shoe designer Nadine de Guzman in an effort to help young entrepreneurs by giving them fuel-efficient car options. As the owner of foldable ballet flats brand Posh Pocket Shoes, Nadine believes that her products’ portability is a perfect match to the compact Suzuki Celerio. Nadine attests that having an array of cost-effective options for your enterprise at your disposal is a must.“We didn’t expect the overwhelming demand. But as your business grows, so do the expenses,” she explains. With a schedule that’s filled with supplier meetings, dispatching orders, and product development, she is frequently on the road. The shoe entrepreneur states, “In our line of business it’s a must to have a car that we can use just like our products — convenient, comfy, classy and eco-friendly.” The brand’s current lineup includes the Metallic Cappy, a line that features bronze or gold toe caps, a bridal collection called Posh Brides, and Ballerina Loafers, which combine the casual style of traditional loafers with the flexibility of ballerina flats.

Sashay, shantay

The winners of the 2012 Supermodel Philippines competition were announced on day one of Philippine Fashion Week. Out of 16 contestants, Mary Ann Naguit and Gerard Go took home the top prizes. Mary Ann has been modelling for two years, while Gerard Go is on his first year. In an interview with Interaksyon.com, Runway Productions executive producer and director Joey Espino explained that the two emerged triumphant because of the “totality they exuded. Number one is the look, second is the body, the way they move, the mindset and then the attitude. We conducted a thorough test with all of them and we think that these two have got it. A supermodel has X-factor, something that is undefinable — a person worthy of a second look.” Runway Productions is the same outfit that sends local models to compete in the annual Ford Models Supermodel of the World competition and has successfully produced finalists like Charo Ronquillo and Chat Almavarez, along with 2011 Ford Supermodel of the World Danica Magpantay.
