I want my Meg TV!

MANILA, Philippines - Years back, Meg magazine launched its banner campaign: the Meg Face Search. Some of the most notable finalists of the competition include actresses Ehra Madrigal and Marian Rivera, models Audrey Ednacot and Cheska Sundiam, and VJ and singer Kayla Rivera. Recently, the magazine launched it’s online lifestyle portal, IamMEG.ph and now, they’ve transitioned to a broader medium — reality television — with I Am Meg: Own The World In Style, which is hosted by Kim Jones and features 14 young women who aspire to be the newest face in the industry. Watch them as they brave challenges to prove that they deserve to be Meg’s first Style Ambassador. Catch the show on ETC every Saturday starting Aug. 18, 7 p.m. with replays every Tuesday at 10 a.m. For more details, like Meg on Facebook.com/megmagazine and follow @megmagazine on Twitter.

A Spice Girls Reunion?

While this year’s Olympics are particularly exciting, we’d like to acknowledge that perhaps not everyone is interested in synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, and um, golf. For these people, perhaps the most exciting Olympic event would be the supposed Spice Girls reunion show on the Closing Ceremony of the games on Aug. 12. Given that the actual line-up is as top-secret as Kate Middleton’s wedding dress designer before she became The Duchess, some people have started reading way too much into Posh’s Twitter posts, which includes a photo of a bedazzled mic and an update about her fitting with Brit designer Giles Deacon, prompting speculation that he may be outfitting the fab five for the show. Everything’s been kept on the DL right now, but just in case, we’re putting our platform sneakers and Union Jack mini-dresses where we can see them.

Bling by Tweetie

Eternal muse Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez has been dabbling in accessory design for the last 10 years, but only got around to opening her own boutique last July 27. According to Apples Aberin’s column on Megastyle.ph, Tweetie’s first and most loyal clients were none other than her similarly photogenic sisters from PMAP. She then started by having her jewelry, under the name Ice Crystals, and accessories, under TdLG, consigned and she became known for her rich textures and use of organic materials. Later on when she mustered up the courage to combine both her jewelry and accessories line under TDLG, she decided set up shop down south in the Alabang Town Center. “Opening a store, I guess, is the natural progression from consigning your products for 10 years,” Tweetie explains. “It gives me the freedom to display my items within an ample space in a more creative, personal, and relatable approach. It’s of course no easy gamble nor commitment on my part but it’s just something I gotta do to push myself a little more, creatively and business-wise.”

Klassy footwear

Kim K and Kanye have finally institutionalized their union — in fashion, that is. Apparently, the power couple (srsly, they just might give Beyoncé and Hova a run for their money), who have both dabbled in retail with varying degrees of success (or lack thereof), met with PPR chairman and CEO François Pinault, a.k.a. the man who owns Gucci, YSL, and Balenciaga, to discuss the possibility of designing and creating a luxury footwear line. While those are about the only details we know of, we would like to say that Kim-ye Footwear has a nice ring to it. Not. On a related note, we would like to say that if you’re not following @KimKierkegaard (short for Kim Kierkegaardashian, as in Kim K + the Father of Existentialism, Søren Kierkegaard) and her counterpart @Kantye_West (KWest + Enlightenment philosopher Immanuel Kant), you’re totes missing out. That is all.

Farewell, Dame Anna

After a career that spanned more than five decades, Anna Piaggi, Vogue Italia editor and one of the fashion world’s most recognizable figures, died in her home at the age of 81 earlier this week. Having served as muse to designers, like milliner Stephen Jones and Karl Lagerfeld, Piaggi started her career working in magazines, like Arianna, Panorama, and Vanity, which cultivated a cult-like following. When Franca Sozzani became the editor of Vogue Italia in the eighties, she wanted somebody who could quickly spot trends and hired Piaggi as creative consultant — her longest-running collaboration. Dubbed by Lagerfeld as an “inventor” of fashion, Piaggi’s eye was as keen as her over-the-top sense of style and she was known for her grand entrances during fashion week. Her death prompted an outpouring tributes over social media with Sozzani tweeting, “23 years of working together, thousands of D.P. (Doppie Pagine — double-page spreads) realized together. You will always be remembered Anna.”

Pretty pictures

We just found something even better than hipster Disney princesses (no idea what we’re talking about? Srsly?): couture Disney princesses! Russian artist and designer Sashii-Kami has re-imagined our favorite fictional royals in high fashion and it is to die for! (Pardon our theatrics.) Even Disney villains got their couture on with Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, and even a super skinny Ursula! (Fine, we’ll quit it with the exclamations.) Now if only we could see the Disney princes in Hedi Slimane or Paul Smith… Equally cute are NYC-based cartoonist/illustrator Joana Avillez’s renditions of fashion personalities, like Anna Dello Russo, Marc Jacobs, and Susie Bubble that are right on the money. Curiously missing from her roster? The iconic Karl Lagerfeld. Perhaps Joana is a Pippa Middleton fan and she didn’t exactly appreciate the kaiser insulting Pippa’s face. Ooh, burn.

Hollywood callings

Whenever the bright lights of Hollywood beckon, there’s only so much a fashion plate can do to turn fame, money and public adoration down. This week, we have a fashion wunderkind, a model-slash-It-girl, and an editrix. Tavi Gevinson, industry ingenue and Rookie founder, has reportedly bagged a role playing a girl who matures ahead of her peers (which shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for her) in Nicole Holofcener’s latest flick, starring alongside indie mainstay Catherine Keener. Then we have Brit model Alexa Chung, who was spotted in the New York set of Gossip Girl, which would be really cool if anyone still cared about XOXO, GG. And finally, there is Anna Wintour. No, The September Issue part two isn’t in the pipe, but her work will be seen on the small screen — on Glee. It’s not what you think. Sarah Jessica Parker signed on the show to play a Vogue.com editor and Queen Anna decided that she would directly oversee her wardrobe on the show. Hey, if SJP’s going to be representing Vogue, she better look the part.
