10 Twitter fashion accounts you should be following
MANILA, Philippines - To a certain extent, yes, you are how many Twitter followers you have. But you are also who you follow. While we love the usual suspects, like @chuvaness, @TheBagHag, and @stylebible, along with mainstays like @womensweardaily, @TheCut, and @styledotcom, we’ve discovered a whole new crop of personalities and online publications that are worthy of your feed.
Of course, there are literally hordes of fashion accounts you must follow on Twitter, but here’s a rundown of the ones we’ve been addicted to. Think there’s an account you think we should’ve included? Tweet it to us at @itsonYStyle! As a bonus, we also included the five accounts you should be following on Instagram. Happy social networking!
@ChoupettesDiary
Fashion’s favorite kitty knows how to use an iPad (thanks to Daddy Lagerfeld), so it isn’t that much of a stretch to imagine her tweeting. Or rather, dictating her tweets (and preferred retweets) to her maids.
@citizencouture
Don’t get us wrong — we love Scott Schuman (@Sartorialist) and his lady love, Garance Dore (@garancedore), along with Yvan Rodic (@facehunter) and Tommy Ton (@JakandJilBlog). Jason Jean floats slightly under the radar in comparison to these heavyweight street style photographers, but the former tax professional has a unique eye for fashion — probably because he was diagnosed with juvenile glaucoma, which left him partially blind. In an age where street style has been reduced to “peacocking,” Jean’s shots leave us with the feeling of inspiration that drew us to the medium in the first place.
@CNCollege
Apart from tweeting the most pressing fashion news items, Conde Nast College’s official Twitter account also answers questions from their followers. Provided that they are related to the school, of course; this isn’t “Dear Abby.” Also, we figure that this is the closest we’ll get to reviving the short-lived @CondeElevator (RIP).
@TheRealDaphne
Move over, Karl Lagerfeld (@KarlLagerfeld). There’s another highly quotable fashion personality on Twitter: heiress, muse, and according to Tom Ford, “one of the — if not the — most stylish women living,” Daphne Guinness. Deal with it.
@evachen212
Fashion b*tches are a little out-of-date. Sure, fashion is all about the aspirational, but sometimes, it’s nice to know an insider we could talk to, which is why we love our girl Eva. (Yes, first-name basis.) From her quirky fashion choices to her daring attitude towards beauty, the best thing about the Teen Vogue beauty editor is that she actually responds when you ask her what shade of nail polish she’s wearing (within two minutes, the last time we tried). Most of all, she’s the big sister you never had in the industry. If you’re thinking of working in fashion publishing, seriously, hit Eva up. She’s too genuinely nice to turn her nose up at you.
@ITSJEREMYSCOTT
Your too-sophisticated and highly well-informed Twitter feed needs a little touch of cray-cray. That is what designer Jeremy Scott is for. From his fanatic 2NE1 and Katy Perry (Katy Cats included) tweets to his capitalized wisdom (i.e. “DONT (sic) USE OLD EYES TO LOOK AT A NEW SITUATION”), he’s part of the crowd that makes fashion fun!
@manrepeller
The Fug Girls (@fuggirls) are a lot of fun, but we were starting to get the feeling that they were too much like us — tweeting and blogging from bed while farting into our Juicy velour suits (okay, maybe the velour suits are an exaggeration). Twenty-three-year-old Leandra Medina, aka The Man Repeller, deals with tacky fashion choices with equal parts humor, snark, and fashion snobbishness — just the way we like it. (Bonus! Check out MR’s Instagram: the Manstagrams!)
@Modelinia
Models are fashion’s rock stars and, like groupies, we obsessively follow their every move, but it’s a bit tiring to follow Coco Rocha (@cocorocha), Karlie Kloss (@karliekloss), and Sasha Pivovarova (@pivovarovasasha) because they are, literally, everywhere. Good thing Modelinia does that for us. They go through the feeds of our favorite supermodels and retweet the most interesting posts, while keeping us up-to-date with the exclusive content on their website. Think of it as FTV in real-time.
@NOWNESS
We go to @refinery29, @Coutorture, and @Fashionista_com as our go-to resources for up-to-the-minute fashion news, but @NOWNESS satiates our thirst for a siding of art and culture to go along with our fashion.
Think of it as a nice supplement to @thecoolhunter (thecoolhunter.net).
@RookieMag
If you’re a follower of @DazedMagazine and @NylonMag, you should check out @RookieMag. Edited by our favorite pint-sized blogger, Tavi Gevinson (@tavitulle), Rookie Mag is this generation's Sassy. After all, you don’t think you’re too old to relate to teenage girl issues, do you?
