Ivar Aseron: Fashion at play

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ivar Aseron is in a playful mood.

He told YStyle so. “I was in a playful mood,” he says of his state of mind while designing his Men’s Week collection. The designer aimed for “easy dressing, playful, nothing serious.”

Aseron’s finely tuned tailoring skills was evident in the fitted suits that struck a note of modernism and nostalgia in one strike (though nostalgia in the form of that Jude Law-Uma Thurman flick Gattaca).

Other looks, a mix of slim and loose silhouettes, evoked rainy-day outwear, thanks to the recurring appearance of nylon. In shapes that paid homage to old-fashioned anoraks, with a nod to artist’s smocks, Aseron paired blouson overshirts in a marbled print with loose-fitting trousers straight out of a Beastie Boys video.

There’s something a bit cheeky about a pair of trousers and a shirt so sheer you could see everything (except for brief shorts that hid the essential bits). Only a confident man could get away with it or as Aseron puts it “a man who is sure of himself and yet doesn’t take himself too seriously.” Sounds like a man we’d admire.
