Chanel's Cruise collection is a walk in the park

-

MANILA, Philippines - Karl Lagerfeld presented his Chanel Cruise 2012–13 collection at the Chateau de Versailles, showing the girls in reincarnations of the 18th-century court’s legendary queen Marie Antoinette. “It’s Coco rock, not rococo,” Lagerfeld told WWD. “It’s serious revolt. It’s not at all 18th century. It’s very rock. You can hardly recognize the girls.”

The show’s playlist included Schlachtofbronx’s That G-String Track and M.I.A’s Bad Girls as well as Michael Jackson’s Thriller: The Sabo Moombahton Remix which spoke of the punk-rebel mood, and set against an extravagant fountain and formal gardens, it was a show as always, to behold. These rock-style Marie Antoinettes sashayed in their cocktail dresses: hello macaron shades meet daytime chambray. The lengths were knee-length and below the knee, with structured tops on full flouncy skirts and palazzo pants. Fabrics included tweed and starched white cotton, but the take was one of playfulness, and not formality. Karl’s sugar and spice girls also wore military-inspired suits, cropped jackets, and even thick-soled trainers. Marie Antoinette reared her over-the-top head in the glittery accessories, bold bejeweled chokers and frothy cuffs.
