At The Ramp, caped ladies to the rescue

MANILA, Philippines - Many stylists credit The Ramp at Crossings for its on-trend merch at forgiving prices. That sensibility was toned down when the The Ramp debuted at Philippine Fashion Week, showcasing wearable ladylike looks that straddled the line between corporate and party.

On display were peplum skirts, reptilian-print chiffon pieces and tuxedo separates. A snake-print belted maxi dress appeared grown up, while a long-sleeved cocktail version just grazing the knee was youthful without being insipid.

The Ramp made a case for dress slacks, pairing the flowing pant with silky blouses and sharply-cut jackets.

Capes were a big idea.

Jackets, slashed along sleeves to create a slimmer poncho, or paired with flowing sheer sleeves, were given a ladylike air, coupled with trim ankle-baring trousers and a smart heel.

The department store’s strength was clearly in its footwear, marching out in sleekly sexy snakeskin platforms with a demure peep-toe and a wrap gently clasped around the ankle. A court shoe in what appeared to be black velvet with a jaunty yellow stripe and slim heel was refreshingly elegant.

For men, oxfords in plastic embellished with playful panels of colorful leather were a standout.

They paired dapper men’s looks with khaki blazers, dressed up with a leopard print loafer. While red or blue-trimmed leather lace-ups looked smart.
