Arcy Gayatin: A symphony of prints and texture
MANILA, Philippines - An abundance of prints, both graphic and organic, unfinished hems and attachments, and bursts of aqua and yellow accents filled Arcy Gayatin’s 34-piece, almost all-black collection last May 26 at Fashion Watch. The silhouettes were a conservative mix of simple lines, straight shift dresses and separates in a stiff tweed fabric that gave it an appropriate boxy effect. Black leather-like material with beautifully stitched floral prints, a fresh change from the usual cotton twill, equally did justice to the clean cuts of the slim skirts and dresses. Languid, flowy chiffon maxi dresses made a cameo towards the end, with cutout details that, unfortunately, didn’t quite work. The same went for the tweed long gowns, which only stiffened and constricted movement. Standout pieces were the gray and yellow, layered chiffon dress and the embellished shift dresses rich in color and texture. — AHB
