Workwear with a W By Rajo Twist
MANILA, Philippines - It is interesting how men’s fashion has evolved so much over the years. Men are seen to be slowly adapting to trends of the season — from small details such as new proportions and colors to a more adventurous take on style, such as adding textures and bolder accessories. Men are no longer confined to a well-tailored coat or a crisp shirt to be dashing. They are now more conscious of what is fashionable, be it in their work essentials or weekend ensembles.
Filipino men are no strangers to trends. As a matter of fact, more and more Filipino men are riding the trends from different fashion houses around the globe and stepping out of their fashion comfort zones.
Locally, corporate lifestyle brand Wharton launched its Spring/Summer 2011 collection with the new generation of fashionable men in mind. Known for their excellent collection of coats, jackets, barongs, and other workwear staples for men, Wharton collaborates with renowned designer Rajo Laurel to create a trendy, yet very wearable set for his first all menswear collection.
Let Rajo Laurel guide you through this season’s casual and corporate dressing to a higher level:
“Break the monotony. Workwear does not have to be boring. Matchy-matchy is so last season. Forget black coat on black trousers. Try contrasting light with dark, like a camel coat over black slacks. Complete the look with a white polo and ‘lolo shoes’ in black and white,” states Laurel.
Here are more of the designer’s style tips:
• Metallic colors are the rage right now. Why not try wearing jackets in gold or silver? Stand out in the sea of snooze-worthy hues and shine.
• Do not be afraid of color. Men’s fashion is no longer confined to neutrals. Rather, men are taking in bolder colors such as shocking pink and neon green. You may not be ready yet with a complete color explosion, but you can try it on first with small details such as neckties, bowties, and belts. Be unpredictable and spice up everyday outfits with a dash of color.
• Challenge the norm and pick pieces in new proportions. Cropped jackets are still very much in season. Trousers with shorter hems are also in fashion. Exchange your pair of jeans for a tailored pair of shorts on casual Fridays.
• Give your plain polos a break and add some prints in your work wear. Patterns like checks and plaids are an easy detour to adding some life into your workwear.
Men today are making a conscious effort to look extra fashionable even in their work outfits. With these fashion tips, the right attitude, and pieces from W by Rajo Laurel, you are surely off to looking more stylish this coming work year.
