What to wear to that holiday fete

JACKIE O' FLASH - Bea J. Ledesma -

“My theory is suck it in, shoulders back,” says Khourtney Kardiashian on Conan. The reality TV celeb was telling the redheaded host how to pose for paparazzi pics on the red carpet. Kim, the most popular, and wealthy, of the three — according to E! News she made a whopping $6 million this year alone — likes to put her hands on her waist instead of flattening her arms against her side, which “makes them look fatter” and juts out her jaw to avoid the dreaded double chin shot.

Conan, wearing a befuddled dazed expression, could only giggle at the inanity.

Conan can laugh but posing is a serious business. Particularly if the people taking the photos have limited photography skills and an obsessive compulsion to post multiple images of the same photo on Facebook.

During the holidays, a time fraught with painful photo albums filled with bloated stomachs and too many repeats of that wardrobe workhorse that is the little black dress, we’ve put together wardrobe solutions for every single event between now and New Year’s. We show you how to wear — and work — each outfit so you don’t get blindsided by your co-worker or cousin’s harsh instamatic flash.

Family fest

Christmas Eve means gathering with close family members and stuffing yourself till your apparel is bursting at the seams. The appearance of mid-calf tulle skirts as a top trend is to everyone’s benefit as the floaty tulle masks even the most bloated of stomachs and its comfy, non-clingy silhouette makes it a comfortable companion beginning at dinner till gift-opening at midnight.

Office Christmas party

Skip the low decollete during corporate festivities. An animal print blazer keeps things festive — without sacrificing modesty, as the office party is not the place to let your boobs hang out (save it for the family fest) — while the gold-toned skirt and cream lace blouse is a sweet antidote to the fiery print.

High school reunion

Reunions are a tricky thing. They’re difficult to avoid and even harder to dress for. The tartan jacket and swingy skirt is a playful twist on everyone’s high school uniform — and just tarty enough to keep you from looking like the dumpy old chick who didn’t age well.

Date night with the boyfriend somewhere cold

You don’t even need Baguio or Tagaytay to rock the shearling vest. Choose someplace that likes to keep the air-conditioner temps lower than the North Pole and you can make like an eskimo.

Christmas night out with girlfriends

If there‘s a time to whip out the silver and sequins, it’s now. And who better to appreciate it than the girls who know how much effort it took to get glammed up for the night.

Kris kingle party

There’s nothing like the surprise reveal at a party that requires you to exchange gifts with classmates or co-workers. Just like this dress, which looks all business in front with its no-nonsense button-down enclosures, while there’s a surprise party in the back with it’s lower back-revealing cutout.
