Are we, as far as fashion is concerned, heading towards minimalism? And by minimalist, I mean muted palettes of grey, black and white in clean silhouettes very telling of the times, portrayed in tailored silk shirts, sailor shorts, basic tees and shift dresses. Such was the wardrobe of choice for the opening of Duerr boutique in B-Side, which in my opinion, is fast becoming the venue for artsy fashion types who want to flaunt their stuff. And rightfully they should, for this is the platform where Gen Y (or Z?) go and teach us how today’s trends should be worn. There were plenty of tight, short stuff worn with sky-high heels (hey, these are kids with K), denim cut-offs, rolled-up jeans, leggings and miniskirts paired with their favorite tees, cropped tops, billowy blouses and fitted button-downs. Color, on the other hand, was barely represented, with hints of red, turquoise and pink sprinkled on tops and bottoms here and there. I suppose it’s the direction we are heading to as the weather becomes cooler. Not necessarily through layered, covered-up ensembles but in autumn colors that are more subdued, somber and calm. Still, it got me thinking, where has the originality gone? Or it this it for fashion, for now? Maybe.
