Soft, romantic styles rule the sidewalk
I hit two events last week that couldn’t have been more different, yet as far as the outfits were concerned, the same trends prevailed, proving that different crowds can still have the same (fashion) sixth sense. At the Olay soap launch, where the theme was “come in your summer best,” girls showed up in predictable short dresses and skirts (with this heat, you wish bikinis were acceptable everywhere), while there were a few who braved skinny jeans and jackets! The dresses were colorful, lightweight and body skimming with wedge shoes and heels replacing flat sandals and flip-flops.
At the video launch of the groovy foursome Techy Romantics, people were more relaxed (despite the venue being a club). It seemed that the heat has gotten the best of them with cut-off shorts and minis being the bottoms of choice and flats and sneakers reigning supreme. But this didn’t mean that inspiration was lost. From a print-on-print jacket and tank ensemble to a neutral top and skirt topped off with striking blue green sandals, it was obvious that no matter how “dressed down” an outfit is, there will always be an element of style present. Thank the fashion gods for that.
Feminine
The mini dress is the fail-safe outfit when temperatures rise, with incarnations in stripes, florals and fuchsia pink.
Utilitarian
From cargo pants paired with stilletos to an ’80s redux with a denim vest and skinny pants to boyfriend jeans with sneakers, these folks know how to bind comfort with individual style.
Statement shoes
These chicks know the power of wicked footwear and they don’t disappoint. Whether it’s futuristic sandals, chunky platforms or shiny flats, their shoes do the outfit proud.
Soft palette
These girls beat the heat and still look oh-so-fresh in flowy, soft fabric in the sweetest floral prints.
Structured
Clean lines, neutral colors and minimal layering are a welcome change from the usual frilly summer attire.
