Let's hit the (country) club
On the polarizing, somewhat surreal Bravo series Real Housewives of New York City, the reality show’s main players enter their Hamptons homes armed with their Blackberrys, Birkins, garbed in tennis whites that reveal too much skin. The effect is slightly reminiscent of that film, Children of the Corn — except, in this case, they’re way mouthier than those quiet creepy kids ever were and nipped, tucked and Botoxed within an inch of their lives.
Fred Perry’s version of classic tennis garb is more refined and — this goes without saying — much classier. Inspired by the styles popular during the post-war period, the British label’s women’s Laurel collection for spring-summer 2010 features gingham, micro houndstooth checks and signature knits for A-line dresses, classic polos and open-necked tops with peaked shoulders.
Pencil skirts, cropped trousers, and swingy shorts round out a collection that’s distinctly feminine without being overtly fussy — a concept that’s probably alien to those housewives in NYC.
