Jeans and tees: the perfect fit

- Ana G. Kalaw -

MANILA, Philippines - Jeans and shirts: they’re probably the peanut butter and jelly of fashion, the classic, beloved combo that surpasses trend and finds a new interpretation in every generation. They’re the great equalizers. Everyone wears them. Everyone loves them, regardless of culture, class, age group or fashion preference. Jeans and shirts are relied on for comfort and versatility, but mainly they’re worn for the expression they afford.

Robinsons Department Store believes in the style credentials afforded by denim pairs and statement tees and has filled up its new collections with pairs and pullovers that exhaust all options and styles. Blue jeans share space with pairs in gray and black, in both straight leg and skinny cuts. Tees are loaded with dizzying graphics and prints, and don’t even try to scrimp on color.

This season, RDS has black low-riding, hip huggers for rockers — stars or even just followers — that can be paired cut-off shirts and lots of cuffed accessories. Super-tight acid wash denims, worn with neon shades, comply with requirements for the lovers of modern punk. Roomier cobalt blue jeans and rolled-up pairs represent this generation’s preppy-inclined interpretations of grunge — paired with the ubiquitous plaid shirt, of course. Weekend warriors go casual in statement tees with pop references paired with faded or ripped, comfy pairs, while the glam squad still sticks to shiny shirts and sleek dark, slim pairs that complement their even sleeker hairstyles.
