Who gives a shirt?
MANILA, Philippines - Whatever the bellwether says, everyone still loves a funny statement shirt. Denise Mallabo, who is also an editor for Uno magazine, shares, “Let’s just say that I’m a one-woman sweatshop. I design, prepare the silkscreen, print and market the shirts myself, so more or less enough love, which includes time, blood, sweat and tears, was given so that a Dahlin’ shirt can be made. And I don’t make shirts in bulk, which makes some of the designs rare.”
Here are three of Denise’s favorite Dahlin’ shirts:
The Questlove shirt: “I love the band The Roots, especially their drummer Questlove. I made three designs dedicated to him, but my favorite would be the very first one that I did where non-Questlove fans thought that I was wearing an Ice Cube shirt, hehehe.”
Pineapple Express shirt: “Because I love Seth Rogen and James Franco.”
Olympic Smoker shirt: “This is the name of my now-defunct band, but it’s funny that people are ordering it just because of the statement and not the history behind it. Sad, though, because it just means that there are literally a few Olympic smokers out there. “
