Cocktail hour

MANILA, Philippines - Moonshine refers to home-distilled alcohol smuggled back in the old days of bootlegging. So you really wonder what prompted fashion-philes Audrey Ednacot and Kato Chua to name their clothing label after something taboo. What people don’t know, however, is that the word “moonshine” also connotes gibberish, which can mean anything and everything even — to the two Moonshine owners at least — a way of life.

Created in 2007 and first marketed as an online shop on Multiply, Moonshine has now ventured from mouse-click sales to the more tangible boutique experience. The clothing line recently opened shop at Archaeology in the Power Plant Mall. Says, Ednacot and Chua, “People can have a 360-degree experience when they buy clothes.”

And quite an experience it is. To complement their chic cocktail dresses and night owl garb, the duo commissioned club king Erik Cua, who did the sleek interiors for his own establishments like Embassy, Manor, and Members Only, to jazz up the boutique. The look, therefore, resembles that of a bar’s interiors: huge mirrors, crushed velvet curtains, a counter that resembles a bar top and fuchsia-pink bar stools. There’s even a disco ball wrapped in silver sequined cloth shining upon fashion that’s both frivolous and fun. Moonshine is located at Archaeology, 2/L Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center.  — AGK
