Here comes the Fringe

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - We don’t know about you but we can’t help but get jealous of the artist lineup of music festivals like Coachella and NYC’s Governor’s Ball and think: Why can’t they bring that to Manila? It might take a while for them to bring a production that big to our shores but our prayers are slowly being answered.

Independent Fringe festivals are happening in cities like New York, Adelaide and Brighton. And this year, Manila is getting the Fringe treatment. Fringe Manila is kicking off their first year with over 200 performances in 20 different venues. Join the festivities and drop by various performance theatres and cafes around Metro Manila, like the Cultural Center of the Philippines, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University (DLSU), Fo Guang Shan, Mabuhay Temple, among others.

From Feb. 12 to March 1, theater companies, performing collectives, standup comedians and visual artists will gather for two weeks of exhibits, traditional and contemporary dance and theater performances and more. The roster of artists includes Leeroy New, DLSU’s Harlequin Theater Guild, The Sandbox Collective, Cocoy Lumabao, SPIT Manila and other local and international artists.

Fringe Manila is jam-packed with performances and it’s something you won’t want to miss. Hopefully, this is just a start of many international festivals coming to Manila because we really don’t mind braving the traffic for a possible (hopefully) CoachellaPH.
