A very Mondo Christmas

More than anything else, for me, the holidays are really for spending… and then spending some more. It’s probably the only season where it’s perfectly acceptable to get that really expensive thing you know you shouldn’t. So go forth and live the gospel of “Buy now, regret later.”
That being said, every store out there will be vying for your Christmas cash so be very wise about all those store sales. Personally, I’d recommend you check out the latest offerings of Mondo, the online company most known for its gorgeous but insanely hard-to-get posters. They just started offering more than just prints and are now selling figures and soundtracks as well. The few I’ll mention below will not just break your bank but blow your minds too.
1 Lil’ Mikey Vinyl Figure by Mike Mitchell
Forget that awful Megan Fox movie from this past summer. If you really want to celebrate your love of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then I suggest you get this limited edition collectible of artist Mike Mitchell’s Lil’ Mikey. Originally commissioned as a print, it became so popular that Mondo decided to turn it into a full-fledged vinyl figure. The pre-order period ends today, Dec. 5, so there’s no time to waste. This doesn’t usually happen for Mondo so if you’re looking for something special this season for your TMNT needs, this might be the one to give you that holiday cheer.
2 ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ Vinyl Soundtrack
The best interpretation of The Dark Knight outside of comics and maybe even then, Batman: The Animated Series has set a high bar for episodic television not just in the world of cartoons but also in the whole of television. Being big fans of Batman, Mondo will release a very special edition of the show’s soundtrack in a Bat-shaped vinyl. This die-cut 12 inches of awesome is sure to jolly-up hipster vinyl junkies and comic geeks alike. If you miss the good old days when Batman wasn’t crazy or Ben Affleck, then this is the perfect gift for you.
3 Fargo Knit Sweater
The holiday season might be a cold and lonely one for some, so give those closest to you something to keep them warm but also remind them of one of the greatest films/shows of the last couple of decades. This year, we were treated to a “follow-up” of sorts to the Coen brothers’ masterpiece, Fargo, via the murder mystery series of the same name. The show did the impossible and gave audiences the same thrill and dark humor the film was known for. Get this sweater made of 100 percent acrylic heavy knit and it will almost feel like you’re there with Martin Freeman, and Key & Peele, braving the harsh unforgiving snow.
4 ‘The Iron Giant’ Bolt Replica
I still remember the first time I watched The Iron Giant and being completely destroyed after. The Brad Bird-directed film was just so beautiful, inspiring and tragic, and showed that animated films can bring the hardest of emotional punches. Decades later and its had a rich legacy and impact on creators everywhere. Mondo is catering to the ‘90s kid in all of us and has made their first prop-replica of one of the bolts from the movie up for pre-ordering. It’s a little expensive, costing $65, but having one of the best things from your childhood is worth almost any price.
