Bastille your heart away
From Phoenix to Bombay Bicycle Club to Architecture in Helsinki, the kids from Karpos Multimedia fly in the latest band about town — indietronica pop rock group Bastille.
MANILA, Philippines - You gotta admit, Manila has had some great live music lately. Concerts actually featuring relevant, current, and cool bands? Beyoncé Live in Manila doesn’t seem so laughable all of a sudden.
The best part about it is that the bands who have been coming to our shores also appeal to a variety of tastes: from the suave French boys of Phoenix to the multicolored Aussies of Architecture in Helsinki, everyone had a chance to either revel in the feels or dance in the dark.
Karpos Multimedia, the group partly responsible for bringing in the aforementioned bands to town, is stepping up by bringing in some of the best of Britannia: award-winning English rock band Bastille.
On Jan. 5, 2015, the World Trade Center will be home to lead vocalist Dan Smith, drummer Chris Wood, guitarist William Farquarson, and keyboardist Kyle Simmons.
Since coming together in 2010, Bastille has gained popularity for their strong pop-rock tracks with indietronica overtones. It seems like music critics are also beginning to take notice of Bastille’s unique sound. Just this year, the group won British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards, and was nominated for four others.
Manila fans will be pleased to hear the boys perform singles such as Pompeii and Bad Blood, even well-loved songs such as Things We Lost in the Fire and Oblivion. Arguably their most popular track, Pompeii is said to be a pseudo-love song that could also be a youth-in-revolt anthem. Interestingly, the band derives its named from Bastille Day (as it is vocalist Smith’s birthday), which celebrates the beginning of the French Revolution. Who knows what other cool trivia Bastille’s got in store for their fans? We’ve yet to find out, but one thing’s for sure — Manila is about to get #blessed once again. — Margarita Buenaventura
