Wandering about
MANILA, Philippines - When Karpos Multimedia announced that Wanderland Music and Arts Festival 2013 was going to have a sequel, the local music scene went properly nuts. Who was going to perform? How were they gonna top the first one? Are flower crowns still cool? The questions were answered immediately (the jury’s still out on the flower crowns), and although there was some initial disappointment at the lineup, Wanderland 2014 proved that you don’t need flashy names to serve up a good show.
Local bands like Franco were, of course, there to kick off the show on a high note. Around the grounds of Circuit Makati, visual artists like JP Cuison (who also designed one of the totes for #YSPROM) displayed his badass Mickey Mouse-inspired art. As the sun set on sweltering Manila, the foreign bands finally came onstage, with music as sweet and mellow as The Paper Kites to the jumpy music of Architecture in Helsinki.
Overall, though, the whole scene was chill as a pill. There were no rowdy crowds, no drunken shenanigans, and surprisingly very few flower crowns. If the next Wanderland is gonna be half as good, we dare say it’ll be a pretty sweet show. — Margarita Buenaventura
