Red Cross MVR2 aims for record-setting run

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Franklin Roosevelt once said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.”

And that begins by empowering them with the knowledge that what they do — no matter how small — matters, says Philippine Red Cross (PRC) governor Mabini “EQ” Pablo.

“The youth are the lynchpin of volunteerism. Always, they have shown the willingness to volunteer their time, energy, and resources to the PRC, plus they have the networks to mobilize a rapid response to an emergency using the latest technology,” Governor Pablo adds.

The MVR2 is a test run for mobilization of volunteers for humanitarian causes, which would not be possible without the involvement of the youth. On Sunday, Feb. 10, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) hopes to set a record with their second Million Volunteer Run (MVR2), which will be held at various venues across the country.

In a bid to attract at least one million runners to make the MVR2 the biggest event of its kind ever to be organized in the Philippines — if not the world — the PRC is partnering with schools and offices to encourage their students and employees to run at 149 venues throughout the country on that day.

The PRC is also opening the event to participants’ families and friends. To create a “sea of red” on that day, all MVR2 participants are requested to wear red shirts.

“As with past Red Cross activities, we believe that the MVR2’s success is in good hands — those of our youth,” Governor Pablo adds.

Registration fee is P100 for students, P200 for other participants, and P500 for executives.
