Quick summer getaway

MEANWHILE - Michelle Katigbak -

As summer rolls around I find myself thinking of my next summer getaway. I don’t know if it’s wanderlust or my constant itchy feet needing to get out of the city, but I always look for my next summer destination with family and friends as early as February.

I am so excited for a nice little summer sojourn that I catch myself daydreaming during my work breaks and eagerly anticipating the weekend. Unfortunately, this year, unlike a lot of the years past, I also find myself exceptionally busy. As much as I would love to plan a whole week or two away to truly enjoy my summer break I just can’t seem to find the time to get away from work. So I focused my energy on finding a summer destination that was nearby and accessible, but still offered the rest, relaxation, and fun I have been looking forward to.

Luckily enough, I didn’t have to go far to find it. Thanks to a good friend of mine who recommended Island Cove to me, I have found a place I can get to easily to enjoy a day or two of fun summer relaxation at an affordable price and only a mere 45 minutes away our place in Las Piñas City. It doesn’t get better than that.

I actually hadn’t been to Island Cove in years and so much has changed since then. Now, not only do they have a fun and exciting water park with pools, slides, and sun chairs but they also have so much more to do. They have a newly renovated hotel where you can check in and relax before trying out all the different amenities. They also have Oceania Water Park, which boasts of a 3,000 meter two layered swimming pool with four giant slides. Great fun for water lovers and for those tan enthusiasts like myself, you can take a break from swimming with some excellent sunbathing. (Don’t forget the SPF though, or you might get burned!).

After playing in the pool have some lunch at the fun Fishing Village restaurant. Not only is it the biggest fishing arena in Kawit, Cavite but you can also have your catch cooked exactly the way you want it. You can enjoy fishing at their three-hectare fishing grounds and enjoy Filipino dishes and fresh fruit shakes while dining in cute little huts on stilts above the water.

After lunch, if you are only staying for the day, be sure to check out Island Cove’s Animal Island The Animal Island is a great stop for animal lovers (like me), and you can see a wide array of fun animals such as different species of mammals, reptiles, and birds. You can feed crocodiles; see monkeys and ostriches, and even Bengal tigers, deer, bearcats, and rabbits. While you are there you can also enjoy the beautiful vibrant colors of the flowers in the Butterfly Farm. You can even set up a bike riding adventure or go horseback riding.

And if you are looking for something a little more adventures, Island Cove has the Adventure Zone. Not for the faint of heart, the Adventure Zone has paintball and airsoft fields and several other fun and challenging activities for all thrill seekers. If you want to have fun with friends and have an exhilarating afternoon, then the Adventure Zone is definitely for you.

Island Cove has something for everyone, and if you are looking for a fun and exciting summer destination to share with friends and family, this summer, look no further than Island Cove at Kawit, Cavite. It’s near, it’s fun, and it’s everything you need in a summer getaway that’s not far away at all.
