Wish upon Mishka
MANILA, Philippines - Mishka Adams will perform at the Fifth Philippine International Jazz Festival. She has launched her latest album titled “Willow Weep for Me,” performed several gigs, as well as done workshops with David Starck at the Philippine Normal University and at the International School.
After finishing her master’s degree at the Guildhall School of Music in 2007, Mishka has been teaching voice and basic music lessons to private students while having a residency at Dalton’s Vortex. Here she initiated “Laro Nights” where she and her band would collaborate with musicians drawn from all parts of the musical spectrum, from the renowned saxophonist Martin Speake and his quartet, to Senegalese singer and kora player Kadialy Kouyate.
Mishka will be joining PIJazz’s provincial sorties as she flies to Bacolod on Feb. 20 to perform at L Fisher Hotel with Sinosikat and Jazz Volunteers.
The international jazz gala will be held at the Ayala Museum on Feb. 25, 5 p.m., with Paula Valstein, Adi Cohen, Tamir Hitman (Israel), Jirapan (Bangkok), Roberto Aymes (Mexico), Dwiki Dharmawan (Indonesia), Lewis Pragasam (Malaysia), Mishka Adams (UK), Abe Lagrimas (USA), Charmaine Clamor and Michael Konik (USA).
Pijazz 2010, a showcase for local and international jazz artists, has grown ever bigger since the Foundation started in 2006. The first festival featured Eumir Deodato and Kevin Lettau. This year will feature Jane Monheit, Brand New Heavies and The Yellow Jackets, to name a few. The fifth fest will be held until Feb. 28.
