Barbershop of horrors
MANILA, Philippines - Repertory Philippines opens its new production of the celebrated, Tony Award-winning musical thriller Sweeney Todd on Nov. 14 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1.
With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, this production boasts a formidable cast. Led by theatre stalwart Audie Gemora in the title role, the musical includes major role players Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo (Mrs. Lovett), Robbie Guevara (Beadle), Robbie Zialcita (Pirelli), Roger Chua (Judge Turpin), and Repertory Philippines newcomers Marvin Ong (Tobias), Lena McKenzie (Johanna), and Franco Laurel (Anthony).
Lending musical support is Gerard Salonga conducting the FILharmoniKA, while Baby Barredo and Michael Williams co-direct.
The show also features Meynard Penalosa (Benjamin Barker/Sweeney Todd understudy), Juno Henares (Mrs. Lovett understudy), and chorus members: Joy Virata, Raul Montesa, Rem Zamora, Cara Barredo, Naths Everett, Oliver Usison, Jay Glorioso, Red Concepcion, Teenee Chan, Marisse Santos, Ring Antonio, James Stacey, Jejie Esguerra, Hans Eckstein, Jay Pangilinan, David Cruz, Gary Junsay, Collins Gutierrez, Gloria Sicam, and Ronna Guba.
