British Council searches for Young Fashion Entrepreneur
MANILA, Philippines - British Council Philippines is looking for a talented young fashion entrepreneur to represent the Philippines in an international competition in the UK.
The Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) awards were devised by the British Council’s Creative Economy Unit to celebrate the achievements and develop the potential of young creative entrepreneurs across the world.
To date the roster of YCE winners from the Philippines are Ani Almario of Adarna Publishing (2004 YCE winner for Publishing), Jay Aldeguer of Islands Group (2005 YCE winner for Design), Louie Talan of Wombworks Inc. (2007 YCE winner for Music), and Benedict Carandang of Tuldok Animations (2008 YCE winner for Screen).
This year, British Council Philippines will participate in the fashion entrepreneur awards. A fashion entrepreneur is anyone involved in the following areas — fashion, textile, accessories or perfume design and production, fashion promotion, fashion retail, fashion product research, fashion marketing and fashion publishing.
The annual awards are open to young creative entrepreneurs between 25 to 35 years old from countries of emerging economies. The winner from the Philippines will be sent on a 10-day all-expense paid trip to the UK where he/she will meet industry professionals and get the chance to tour leading organizations in fashion including attendance to London Fashion Week.
The overall winner of the UK competition will then receive grant money to be used on a collaborative project with the British Council.
The application period for the Young Fashion Entrepreneur award begins on Aug. 1.
