Cine Veritas human rights festival

The UP Film Institute with the Cine Veritas Group is holding the 2008 Cine Veritas Human Rights Festival on Dec. 9 to 12 at the UPFI Cine Adarna, Videotheque and Ishmael Bernal Gallery. This four-day festival aims to promote human rights awareness through various multi-media activities organized by the participating groups. This year’s festival includes cultural presentations and educational discussions in an effort to broaden viewer’s understanding of human rights and update them with the current state of the country. Entrance to all activities and screenings are free, except for the musical play.

The program on Dec. 9 is: 10 a.m. — Ang Mga Lorena musical/ press conference at Cine Adarna; 3 p.m. —“Engkwentro” exhibit opening at UPFI lobby; 4 p.m. —Veritas March (UP academic oval); 5:30 p.m. —festival opening ceremony, “FACT Sheet” exhibit opening; 7:30 p.m. — film screening (economic, social and cultural rights films) at Videotheque: City for Sale (SIPAT, Philippines), Daangbakal (TUDLA Productions, Philippines), Lakbayan (Mayday Productions, Philippines), Kung Balatan ang Bawang (Jewel Maranan/TUDLA Productions, Philippines); 4:30, 6 p.m. — Kurap at Videotheque.

Dec. 10: 10 a.m. —Puting Ilaw (Aiza Peñafiel, Philippines), migrant workers’ rights forum at Cine Adarna; 12 noon to 2 p.m. — International People’s Struggle at Cine Adarna; The Cu Chi Channels (Mickey Grant; Vietnam Friendship Grant Ltd., Vietnam), Venezuela Boliviariana People and Struggle of the Fourth World War (Marcelo Andrade Arreaza/ Calle Y Media, Venezuela); 5 to 7 p.m. — International People’s Struggle Batch 2 at Videotheque, Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers (Robert Greenwald/Brave New Films, Iraq); 7 p.m. — human rights forum at Ishmael Bernal Gallery; 6:30, 8 p.m. — Kurap at Videotheque.

Dec. 12: 3 p.m. — forum on bisexual rights and issues at Ishmael Bernal Gallery; 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. — film screenings at Videotheque Megumi (animation, Japan), Abduction (documentary, Japan); 7 p.m. — Cultural Night at Ishmael Bernal Gallery and Perfumed Garden
