Oil's well in this night of cars and music

STILL TALKING - Enrico Miguel T. Subido -

If you drive a car (or maybe even if you don’t) then you know that engine oil is the lifeblood of any motor  vehicle. True, petrol is what combusts, thus setting the pistons into motion, hence enabling the car to move. Likewise, all the other automotive fluids have certain purposes in making the driving experience a safe and enjoyable one. Remove any one of these from the equation and your car will suffer a bit. Take engine oil out of the equation, however, and your car will surely die.

Let’s make things easy to understand. Engine oil is a lubricant, therefore its main purpose is to allow all the little bits and pieces inside engines to glide smoothly against one another. Without it, these same parts would be suffering from metal to metal contact, resulting in lots of heat caused by friction. This friction correlates to unnatural wear and tear on your car’s engine, and an overall decline of your vehicle’s performance.

People oftentimes forget that car care is more than just visiting the car wash religiously or having auto-detailing services done. That thing that lives underneath your car’s hood is way more important than that full body kit you had attached last weekend. This represents a classic case of looking good only on the outside.

Castrol, a company that believes in keeping car engines safe and protected, is at the forefront of creating engine awareness among motorists. Backed by an impressive 40-year legacy, Castrol is continuously making technological advances in producing premium quality, high performance lubricants for your car.

Held recently at the Decagon, Silver City, Frontera Verde in Pasig, “Generations: Four Decades of Castrol GTX, 40 Years of Superior Protetion,” celebrated Castrol’s 40th year anniversary. Hosted by Sam YG and Lia Cruz, “Generations” commemorated four decades of excellence and continuously pushing the boundaries of GTX, their high performance engine oil. “Generations” was the first in the Asia-Pacific region to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Castrol GTX. It also coincided with the launch of the new Generations 2009 Calendar which featured a few cars that were on display at the venue, namely the 1966 Corvette Stingray, the 1988 Lancer Turbo, and the 2008 Lancer Evolution X.

“Generations” was a night of history as slideshow presentations showcased the influence of Castrol through the years — from its humble beginnings in 1899, to its influence in the 1900s motoring scene and its involvement in many of the land speed records during the time. GTX became the engine oil of choice in Europe during the 1960s and, a decade after, it made its mark in the American market as a leading choice for engine oil. The night was capped off by musical performances from Artie Lopez (of Auto Extreme) and his band, as well as a solid set from OPM stars South Border.

A mark of a good company is its longevity. Having been afloat for 40 years, Castrol has more than proven itself as a first-class engine oil company. “It’s more than just oil, its liquid engineering,” is the motto of Castrol. With 40 years of research and development under the belt, it’s no surprise that many people select it over other motor oils.

Remember: preventive maintenance always saves. Make sure to have your car serviced every month to keep it running at an optimum level.

So have you checked your engine oil lately?
