Beauty being my beat, I scour the web for beauty blogs that pique my interest by offering the latest and greatest in the beauty biz. Perusing blogs keeps me constantly updated on the hottest releases on the market faster than a glossy mag, since most authors post daily on their blogs. An added bonus is that bloggers are more likely to give an in-depth review of products they’ve test-driven, which helps readers assess whether or not they want to invest in a particular product, especially if it’s pricey. Even beauty bloggers have been invited to attend fashion week since their blogs serve as vehicles to demonstrate the faces in fashion. There’s a wealth of info to be found here, from savvy advice to detailed how-tos for those who enjoy keeping up with the trends. Interested in channeling a particular fall makeup look or dying to replicate the updo someone donned at the Emmys? It’s all available online. While there’s a bevy of blogs to choose from, listed here are a few of my recent faves.
Reporting on what looks are being sported on the catwalk and how to get them is the strong point of this blog. Sometimes it’s difficult to translate what you see on the runway to what you don in your daily life but the creators of this blog are two 30-something moms who tell it like it is without having to make things hard.
For nail aficionados, this blog literally hits the nail on its head. Loaded with everything pertaining to your little piggies, it showcases the newest shades being sported on the runway and on the street. What’s super fab is that when the nail polish is being photographed, they feature a photo taken in sunlight and artificial light so you can see the dramatic difference in the hues of the lacquer. Whether you prefer jewel tones or berry bolds, it’s very detailed and caters to a niche market. Addressing questions such as “Does nail color define us?” with references to the gals starring in sensation Gossip Girl, this site stays current and light.
Featuring fresh products and weekly steals, beauty-to-go and bridal beauty concerns, this site is a haven for beauty addicts who have no plan of recovering. Tackling concerns like how much to tip your stylist and copying celebrity looks are some of the topics dealt with on this blog. Dishing out the lowdown for beauty junkies, Beauty Addict is gaining a following.
Created by former InStyle editor Polly Blitzer, this beauty blog is not yet totally complete but promises to feature a shopping tab to send beauty gifts to friends and relatives and a beauty finder section to locate spas and salons by city (unfortunately for us, this feature only focuses on the US). In true InStyle fashion, the blog has a wealth of info from celebrity beauty pros like Mally Roncal and Gunnar Peterson and reveals which products certain Hollywood celebs stash in their bags.
From the creators of Bag Snob comes its latest blog, Beauty Snob, which caters to all things beauty-related. Rated by Women’s Wear Daily as one of the top 10 beauty blogs, Beauty Snob posts regular accounts of the latest luxe products available. Scrolling through the site educates me on brands that I am not entirely aware of and their efficacy in a very straightforward way that doesn’t mimic being a snob at all.
A heavily detailed blog, Delush gives an in-depth analysis on an entire gamut of beauty products, from mass-market drugstore brands to high-end potions. With a panel of five reviewers, they give a personal account and their opinion versus what the product claims to perform. Products are divided into categories, from cosmetics and skincare to fragrance and haircare. I’m a fan of Delush for the honest descriptions they post; sincerity is so delush, especially in this day and age.
