Life becomes her
Photographer and artist Jenna Genio is young — and she doesn’t try to hide it, as evidenced by the awkward yet lyrical, random yet purposeful scribbles, strokes and drawings she inks on paper. The artist is exhibiting for the first time, not her photos, but ink illustrations, which artist and curator of Cubicle Gallery Ronald Caringal describes as “both playful and intentional.”
Barely in her 20s, Genio’s venture into art depicts in black and white her own interpretation of coming of age, or rather an “age of becoming”: misshapen forms that come off as stylish and delicate, sharp edges that show off a youthful pride, striking compositions that jar both eye and mind.
Jenna Genio is young but that’s not stopping her from coming into her own. Her first solo exhibition will open today at the Crucible Gallery, 40a C. Raymundo Ave. corner Stella Maris St., Maybunga, Pasig. – Ana Kalaw
