Watch to wear

I’m sure everyone has seen them by now. Those ubiquitous watches donned by Manila’s fashionable elite from the office straight to the party. I’m talking about those chunky, almost gelatinous-looking black or white watches with the Philippine islands stenciled over the strap and a huge face declaring not only the time, but “I’m Super Proud to be Pinoy” as well.

I’m talking about the Tim Yap limited-edition o.d.m. watches that were an instant hit when they hit the market. Seen on the wrists of celebrities and fashion mavens alike our little Philippine accessory has even been sported by the likes Stefano Gabbanna and many other international superstars. And one need not ask why; the watch is chic-ness personified and the ultimate accessory that not only looks as cool as hell but is functional, too (it tells you the time!).

We were all quite smitten with this national pride-instilling timepiece but what about the brand that brought us the watch to begin with? The o.d.m. is a relatively new dynamic designer watch brand that was established in 1999. Their mission was to convey a philosophy that is inspired and linked to the creation of their brand acronym: originality, dynamism and minimalism.

I actually think that’s a perfect description of their brand as their products are just that. They constantly come up with creative and funky designs (the Tim Yap edition, among others) that are busy, yet still remain readable and highly wearable. Their watches are not only a reliable timepiece but at the same time a trendy accessory that can instantly punch up any outfit and quite easily become the center of one’s look.

I love the selection of watches from o.d.m. I have (and proudly wear): the white and black Tim Yap special-edition watches and the awesome rocker watch I got for Nino, which is made of the same material in pure black with four charcoal gray-silver colored studs on both sides making it look like a leather cuff while being a functional timepiece at the same time. I especially love the fact that when you look at the face it displays the message “We will Rock You” along with the time. Ingenious! And those aren’t the only fabulous pieces. A while back, o.d.m. released a rave watch perfect for those long rave parties. It was white and it glowed in the dark!

O.d.m. has gained quite a loyal following and has grown and expanded over the years. In 2006, they re-established their position as an “inno-trendy timewear” brand symbolizing their aim to adopt new technologies and design innovative ornamental wristwatches. Additionally, they were the first Hong Kong watch brand to participate in Baselworld in 2003 and have, since then, continued to take part in the prestigious event alongside other famous watch brands. They have also had major events in several countries and have won various international awards, which has further encouraged the brand to produce more creative timepieces as well as funky and kitschy designs.
