LV it up!

It’s an interesting time in LV town. Now that Marc Jacobs has officially become the hottest lust object for fashion, expect more lust-worthy gems as well. Any YStyle reader who is also hooked on Chuvaness (Cecile Zamora’s blog) knows what we should be expecting soon — her avatar is a classic speedy with the too-hot-for-the-kitchen Richard Prince prints.

The event was held in Malaysia, a true feast for the senses. From the sumptuous Malaysian fare fueled by sparkling Moet champagne, the LV party surely lived up to its reputation. However, the true stars were the exciting collaborations of the season. 

Richard Prince is one of the world’s most talked-about artists. With a retrospective on the way, it was only fitting to commemorate this conceptual artist’s genius in our favorite purses. Known for his interesting use of paint achieving an aquarelle sort of finish, or his little jokes or quips in paper and canvas, Richard Prince has always found his way into the hearts of art lovers everywhere.

Now he can have fashion fans as well. Marc Jacobs reinvigorated the artist-fashion designer collaborations years ago with his work with dear friend, the late Stephen Sprouse, and later on with the highly-successful Takeshi Murakami. Not since Schiaparelli and Dali has a sensation been so intense. The Prince bags come with his signature text and his aquarelle finish. The Matisse handbags are also expected to hatch delicious bursts of desire. A perfect accessory for the Easter festivities.

The clothes for spring/summer for women also complement the understated subversiveness of the Prince collection. The nurse shoes are an homage to the artist who had a famous collection inspired by them. Each shoe is not alike, a little off the edge… making it thoroughly edgy. The saucy and delightful Peyton shoe (I want it in all colors, please!)gives slingback shoes a slap to the face. The clothes themselves are simple and surprising at the same time. Marc Jacobs was highly inspired by Princess Margaret during her party girl days. She was quite the naughty royal — my favorite, in fact. Aside from Harry, of course.

The look is sexy in a highly cerebral way. The straps of the clothes, cleverness of the fabric and the daring of the drape remind everyone that yes, you must have a brain to wear these clothes.

True to his love for imperfect perfection, the clothes hang slightly loose only enough to give a hint of nonchalance. The same can be said for his simple but finely detailed menswear collection. Inspired by the south of France — a little of the space and a lot of Gatsby (Jay Gatsby, not the gel folks) — Jacob’s menswear line soothes the senses in natural and serene colors. With quiet homages to basket weaves and pants lengths of yore, it’s for the long-lost gentleman who never strove to be a Kennedy. It’s anti-prep prep. Old rich eccentrique. It’s opposed to the pop colors found in the womenswear collection, proving its sucks to match outfits when you’re a couple. (I did it once, it’s a joke.)

The accessories also carry a quiet cool cracked with a whip of wit. Unfathomable strappy shoes for men become very street with their muted tones and elegant form. Look forward to lots of nice sandals for the beach gentleman. Man bags have regained their dignity with breezy designs making it okay for real men to have Piña Coladas on the beach again!
