Dude, where’s my Epson?

STILL TALKING - Enrico Miguel T. Subido -

Imagine this situation: you are working in a medical clinic and your boss or head doctor asks you to look for Mr. Dela Cruz’s file. After sifting through piles of patient information cards in the filing cabinets labeled “D” and “C,” you are almost ready to give up. Then you remember his first name, Juan. You check the filing cabinet labeled “J” and, sure enough, it’s there. In the time that you were looking for his file card, Mr. Dela Cruz suffered from an acute bout of impatient patientus, and had to be rushed to the hospital.

This hypothetical predicament would never have happened if the card had been filed under the letter of the patient’s surname. But the dude has two last names: Does the card go, then, in the “D” cabinet or in the “C” one? Problems, problems.

This is a practical scenario that Epson aims to make easier for us. Epson, recognized worldwide as the leading brand in color imaging, recently held its business solutions conference in Ilocos Norte, specifically at the historic Fort Ilocandia where the gathering was held. Aside from promoting their newest product developments, Epson particularly sought to interest businessmen and entrepreneurs from the north of their innovations. What transpired in Ilocos was a sharing of ideas between members of team Epson and locals of the northern provinces, all geared towards how Epson products can make daily business transactions simple and effortless.

Going back to the problem of Mr. Dela Cruz’s file card, the solution is simple when it involves Epson products. The solution is to digitize all the files in the filing cabinet. They could be scanned, for example, by Epson’s GT-2500, a scanner that reproduces images and documents at high resolutions. All the file cards can be scanned and put into a database for easy retrieval. No more having to worry about which filing cabinet to search in, just type in the patient’s name. What this moves towards is a clutter-free, paperless office environment that improves workplace productivity.

Pair up the GT-2500 with any one of Epson’s cutting-edge printers, like the Aculaser C2600N, and loss of files becomes a thing of the past. At any moment, the file can be retrieved and reproduced (at a blinding rate of 30 pages per minute) using this particular laser printer. Every time the patient comes in for a checkup, he or she can actually go home with a copy of his or her medical data. What’s even better is that this information can easily be shared with affiliated hospitals (either through straight-up file transfer or through e-mail) so that, if in case the patient is confined to any of these hospitals, the doctors on duty already have a heads-up of the situation.

Clinics and hospitals are only one of the sectors Epson has business solutions for. Schools, govern-ment offices, companies that employ a large number of people, and any other business that involves files, filing, replicating and retrieving files, can also use the same remedy. It is all about the move towards creating a more efficient and clutter-free workspace. These businesses just have to make sure that their computers are always clean and virus free. A crash in the names database could be disastrous.

Epson also targets other business sectors with its more specialized equipment. Having developed a new line of printers for labels and for receipts, Epson is making restaurant management a thing of ease. The TM-L90 is one of these printers, and it wastes none of your time when you go to the grocery store. Have you ever waited in line at the fruit and vegetable section because of a printer malfunction? This often happens when price tag printers become overworked. The TM-L90 is a heavy-duty thermal printer that takes care of price-tag printing in no time at all. Take home that bundle of pechay in no time at all. The TM-U230 is a robust printer designed for the kitchen environment. With its spill-proof design, bacteria-resistant coating, Ethernet and USB network connectivity, orders will always get to the customer correct and on time — no more mistakes like getting the salmon steak when you ordered the filet mignon.

Yet another innovation shared by team Epson during their conference in Ilocos was the new technology incorporated into their multimedia projectors. New Epson projectors now utilize 3LCD technology, in which light is passed through LCD panels about the size of a postage stamp then projected through a lens to expand minute details within the images. The result is a reproduction of a wide gamut of colors as well as smoother picture quality. Epson’s EMP-1815/1810 utilizes the new 3LCD technology and also has some other interesting features. It has multi-screen display capabilities (network up to four projectors, and show four different things or one large panoramic view), USB connection, and wireless movie sending with sound. In other words: no wires, no worries.

And, of course, Epson does not forget that it can take care of things other than business. Its EMP-TWD3 home entertainment projector has an integrated DVD player and speakers and has a simple start-up with a single cable connection. Imagine hours of gaming or having a movie marathon with a screen as big as your wall and as clear as anything you’ve ever seen.

Epson’s tagline “Exceed Your Vision” is a fitting statement to the way they, as a company, are addressing these fast and changing times. It’s kind of easy to exceed your vision when you have all these cool Epson products at your disposal. Truly, life would be so much easier using all of these new and innovative products.

Especially the EMP-TWD3 home entertainment projector.
