Work it
Looking to troubleshoot your work apparel? Or streamline your wardrobe? Rustan’s recently debuted two affordable apparel lines, both designed by in-house homeware designer Hench Tobias. Though this is his first foray into fashion, the resulting labels, dubbed Luna and Rred, are an exercise in stylish multi-tasking.
Luna, the dressier line, is composed of dresses and separates in silk, satin, chiffon and shantung. Masterfully mixing lace and beadwork in cocktail-friendly styles, Tobias calls the latest collection “Audrey Hepburn in Studio 54.” It’s easy enough to spin these elegant LBDs into classy work attire. Tobias suggests pairing one of his easy-chic dresses with a jacket and a pair of flats. Epaulet-embellished cropped trench jackets would perfectly set off the line’s more feminine cuts. Add an oversize, grommeted bag — one from Burberry should do just fine — and you’re all set.
Culling references from menswear, the English set and Sherlock Holmes, Tobias’ corporate-friendly line Rred is all about maximizing clothing — turning separates into wardrobe workhorses that’ll take you from day to night. Black wide-leg trousers, crisp mutton-sleeved blouses and khaki paperbag skirts are just a few of Rred’s fail-safe pieces that’ll easily update your attire. Not so sure how to incorporate some of Rred’s trendier selections? Borrow a trick from your fashion-forward friends and layer some of the pieces with denim trousers and a cardigan for casual Fridays or keep your silhouette sleek by pairing one of the roomier, balloon tops with a slim pencil skirt and smart heels.
Dressing up for work should be easier with lines like these at can’t-pass-up prices. Now, if only work were as easy as our wardrobe choices.
