There glows the neighborhood

JACKIE O’ FLASH  - Bea J. Ledesma -

Simulating the life of a jetsetting socialite with a hankering for posh beach resorts just got a little bit easier — and cheaper. ArtDeco, the munich-based cosmetics company, recently launched its bronzing range, an affordable collection of powders and brushes that can instantly amplify a tan — or recreate one if none is present.

The art of tanning isn’t as textbook as it used to be — i.e. slathering some oil and spending a couple of hours under the baking sun. Thanks to consumer warnings about the hazardous effects of tanning, or even exiting a dark space without at least a smattering of sunblock, the only people who get a kick out of exposing themselves to UV rays probably have a death wish.

Now people who want to fake the bake — or liven up a wan complexion — can simply brush on some golden glow. ArtDeco’s Bronze Era collection has a few key pieces to help consumers attain some caramel-colored skin.

Encased in a lovely compact, complete with elegant surface relief, the bronzing powders can be used as a rouge or highlighter or all-over face powder. Swipe over the brow, cheeks and nose for a sun-kissed effect. Brush over cheeks for a natural-looking blush that won’t look at all faux. Or place all over face for an even tan. The powder leaves a velvety finish and contains nourishing coconut oil and currant seed oil. Available in two natural shades of brown, the lustrous granules provide coverage and a discreet glow.

ArtDeco’s solution for on-the-go working women comes in the convenient form of the Golden Glow Powder Brush.  The powder brush for face and body with SPF 6 is especially practically for women who like to tote oversize handbags wherever they go — all the jostling tends to break the product inside so when they open the compact, instead of a smooth palette, they get broken-up pieces of what was once a powder compact. With its fine-textured powder, the easy-to-use brush enables a smooth and even application. Select the Golden Bronze hue to attain a natural tan with some shimmer.

Another interesting addition to the collection is the Spray on Leg Foundation, which according to the cosmetic label “feels like a fine silk sock on your legs.” Spray over limbs for an even tan that’ll look natural and — thanks to its water-resistant qualities — will last long too.

But the hero of this collection just might be the bronzing powder compact and refill, an older product but a star of this collection nonetheless. This SPF 12, two-tone tanning powder comes in four shades. Select your preferred hue and the two tones can be used individually — as a highlighter — or combined for a glowing tan. A silky and even tan is instant, due largely to the microfine components and special pigments of this bronzing compact. And just like ArtDeco’s award-winning eyeshadows, these compacts are refillable.

ArtDeco is available at Rustan’s Essenses Makati and Shangri-La Tower, Watson’s at SM Mall of Asia, SM Makati, SM Megamall and SM North Edsa.
