Trend matters

JACKIE O’ FLASH  - Bea J. Ledesma -

It’s time for another trend round-up.

Whether slinky or poofy, today’s silhouettes have created a polarizing effect among female consumers. Thanks to the latest incarnations of puff-sleeved frocks courtesy of labels like Lanvin, volume is making another statement in the fashion scene. Setting the sleeves back — leaving them unpadded, lest they give people bad ‘80s flashbacks — and giving them wider dimensions, much like mutton sleeves, allowed the Lanvin designer to set a new precedent for the silhouette of the season.

The puffy-sleeved frocks currently on the racks at SM Department Store have only a few similarities with their higher-end sibling, but for those on a budget, the circular cut and dramatic style of the dress, by affordable label Velvet, can make the cut. Another version, this time in scarlet, comes in a more wearable form. The minidress, with pockets cut close to the hip, boasts a ruched, shorter sleeve with a bubble effect.

Those who favor the slimmer models sent out by fashion fave Marc Jacobs can opt for the casual T-shirt dress, paired here with a hoodie, or a body-hugging minidress in a tamer version of the much-loved Christopher Kane bandage dress.

SM Department Store’s rack of goodies has all the makings of a trend-lover’s haven. Aside from the new silhouettes, everyone’s favorite store has the tried-and-tested pieces made popular by nu-rave editorials in publications across the Atlantic.

YStyle lists some trends every fashion follower needs to check out.
