Whether you freakishly worship the sun or avoid it like a haunting plague, Lancome’s spring-summer collection focuses intensely on eye and lip color over skin tones. If you are a bronze goddess or maintain a kabuki look, this season’s line can work no matter which direction you sway on the sun scale.

Drawing inspiration from the late 18th century and largely roused by its legendary icon Marie Antoinette, Lancome’s artistic makeup director Gucci Westman Neville has whipped up a look that can befit anyone, royalty and commoner alike. However, Lancome’s version of Marie Antoinette is not the standard frilly, excessive type we have etched in our minds but more along the lines of Sofia Coppola’s revived and widely celebrated pop version giving way to the very name of the collection: Pop Cherub.

Mimicking the pastel shades of the macaroons Marie Antoinette feasted on, eye shadows in this collection come in strawberry pink, pistachio green, silver gray, soft white and naturally, chocolate, making this legit eye candy. The eye shadow palette offers five enticing shades in both powder and cream formulations to flatter everyone. Layering cream and powder adds depth and shimmer that is long lasting even in this heat. Batting those radiant lids is a momentary flirt with fantasy. Even the packaging is delightful with a precious silver metal charm of a cherub dangling off a substantially heavy case.

For the lips, bold sensual hues are favored in fuchsia or red to offset sweetness of the eye. The Color Fever lipsticks provide an immense surge of color while the Sweet Caprice lip balm protects and smoothes lips, topping them off with a satin finish.

Lancome’s Manila makeup artist Gela Laurel executed the fresh look on model Jackie Mitchell by combining shades from the palette 02 L’Ombre Regards on the eyes, dusting Magie blush 09 Rose Alizes on the cheeks and swiping Color Fever Rose Shamal on the lips topped with Sweet Caprice lip balm. Ideal for a romp in Versailles or a night out in Manila.
