Models serve as the ultimate fantasy. They inspire you to look better, and maybe in some dramatic cases, they become obsessions to men and women alike. But having been in the biz for six years now, I know that a model’s life is hardly glamorous. They work hard hours and endure hours of removing inches of makeup and hair products. Reality can be such an ugly thing.
That’s probably why Model Co. director Shelley Barrett came up with the idea of making fantasy products to real. We women know all about those moments when we find ourselves frustrated with certain products, which may be functional but aren’t perfect, the "I wish" moments as I call them. Shelly, who was running a successful modeling agency for 10 years, over the course of time heard countless stories and ideas from models and stylists about products they wished were on the market but weren’t available. Shelley listened, and realized that despite the number of cosmetic brands on the market, there weren’t any that catered to really specific needs. Like what does one do when they over tweeze? Or how about surviving a last-minute dinner invitation when you look pasty and wan from a week’s worth of work? Shelley launched the innovative Model Co. with lash wand, a fantastic toy that curls up lashes with a safely heated gadget. After its success was marked in the world’s most venerable fashion tomes, Model Co. grew and started introducing products that we only once dreamed of.

Making up shouldn’t be hard to do! First use a face primer that keeps makeup on for 10 hours while moisturizing your skin, a consistent kickstarter for Model Co.’s impressive face line. For eyebrow-obsessed femmes (90 percent of kikays), there is the More Brows pen, a slightly odd but wholly fantastic eyebrow pen that actually distributes hair-like pieces onto the brow, creating an illusion of a fuller brow. For those who are more into maintenance, Eyebrowz is an all-in-one kit that has stencil waxes and a tweezer to provide perfect brow-grooming any time. Lips also have a say. I just went wild for this entire line. First of all, every product is distributed evenly onto the skin with its 360 degree spray! The spray bronzer (which comes in a sunless tanning and cosmetic version) is fantastic. Being a reformed sun child, I use self-tanners all year round to keep me from looking like a siopao. The color might look too intense when you spray it on, but once it settles in it becomes a warm bronze that will keep you looking hot. To go with the tan, the innovative Skin Drink Airbrush Moisturizer kept my skin lightly moisturized, which makes it perfect for summer! My other magic potion is the Shimmer Airbrush Luminizer (which, by the way, is Nicole Kidman’s favorite), which solves my luminizing problems. Sometimes to get that glow, you’ll have to deal with grease. This one sprays and stays. A miracle! Plus it doubles as cologne with its light scent of Fragipani.
